Robert (Bob) Lyle Smuin, 80, of Vernal, Utah died October 18, 2012 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Helena, Mt.
He was born Jan. 24, 1932 in Vernal, Utah to George Gilbert and Nellie Ray (Slaugh) Smuin. He was married to Nora Jane (MacKnight) Smuin of Jensen, Utah in 1950. They had five Children; Gilbert (Gib) George Smuin, Tracy Lee Smuin, Janet Faye Smuin, Annette Smuin and Robert Kerry Smuin. He later married Marie Walch from Massachusetts .
Bob was Assistant Manager for Wesco Refinery and managed the Refinery in Roosevelt, Utah. He also worked in farming and ranching, driving truck and various other positions from age 14 until his retirement at age 67. He lived in Utah and Colorado most of his life and in Roosevelt, Utah his retired years. He moved to Helena, Montana to live with his son in Aug. 2012.
He held a pilot license and loved to fly his plane in the 50’s and 60’s. Later he enjoyed building and flying model airplanes. His greatest passion was to be in the outdoors hunting, fishing, camping and boating.
His ability to endure any adversity, his respect for nature, his love of knowledge from reading and ability to share life experiences with family and friends will be deeply missed. He was a very proud man.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marie, two Children; (Gib) Gilbert George and Janet Fay. Two Grand Children; Cliff Morgan and Josh Borsinko; Sisters; Vera (Billings), Gilda (Boren) and Cleo (Rich); Brothers; Dennis, Austin and Sharon Smuin.
Bob is survived by his daughters Tracy Lee MacKnight, Annette (Smith) Smuin and youngest son Robert Kerry Smuin; 20 Grand Children; 31 Great Grand Children and 3 Great Great Grand Children. He welcomed all of Marie’s Children, Grand Children and Great Grand Children into his life.
Cremation was done at the Anderson, Stevenson, Wilke Funeral Home, 3750 North Montana Avenue, Helena, Montana 59602. Family is accepting donation in honor of Robert Lyle Smuin payable to Anderson, Stevenson, Wilke Funeral Home for life end expenses.
A memorial services will be held in Vernal, Utah in May of 2013. Family will be notified of the time and place at a later date.
