Robert Vernon Wilson

Robert V. Wilson, age 90 of Helena, passed away from natural causes on November 23, 2012 at Apple Rehab Cooney Home in Helena. Robert was the second son of nine children born on June, 6, 1922 to Walker Wilson Sr. and Annie Pearl Brown in a cabin on Arrow Creek near Geraldine, Montana.

He married Frances Laura Rae in Canada on August 13, 1943. To this union seven children were born.

Robert entered into the Army/Air Force on September 17, 1942 serving our country in WWII in the British Isles. His decoration and citations are: American Theater Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal CMAN, TT, AFPD 4247/45.

He worked for the Anaconda Company for 24 ½ years before adventuring into Truck driving delivering produce to Canada from California and Mexico. For his third retirement he worked at Bauma Post Yard another 20 years and finally called it enough.

He had a very adventurist mind spending most of his free time exploring and claiming old mines around Lincoln area as well as some logging of post and poles and lastly the quoting of the Constitution.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two daughters, Ann Smock and Cathy Wilson, one son, John Wilson, two sisters, Mertle Wilson and Margaret Groot, and two brothers, Luddy Gorwell and Harold Wilson.

His smiles, jokes and jabs will be missed by his surviving family, Walter (Edye) Wilson of Vaughn, MT; Steve Wilson of Great Falls, MT; Jesse Wilson of Lincoln, MT; Nancy (Tom) Ramberg of Helena, MT. His siblings, Walter (Kathy) Wilson of Simms, MT; Don (Doris) Wilson of Libby, MT; Rich (Gail) Wilson of Great Falls, MT; Mabel Webster of Whitehall, MT and sister-in-law, Betty Wilson of Choteau, MT; as well as numerous nephews, nieces and 17 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.

There will be a Memorial Service held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 28th at Retz Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will follow at the Montana State Veterans Cemetery, Fort Harrison. A Reception will immediately follow the burial at the Fort Harrison Service Club. If desired, memorials in Vernon’s name may be made to the Lewis and Clark Veterans Council Honor Guard, 1272 Lucches Road, Helena MT 59602. To Honor our Fathers wishes, some of his cremated remains will be scattered in the Bob Marshall Wilderness so he can continue to torment the environmentalists.
