Roger L. Hyndman, of Helena, passed away October 28, 2023.
Roger loved the outdoors and spent much of his free time hunting, hiking, and fishing. His favorite place was their cabin near Helmville, MT, in which he found much solitude. He moved to Helena in 1976 and started Roger’s Dri-wall until he retired.
Roger is survived by his wife Cheryl and three sons, Jason, Todd, and Greg. He is also survived by his sisters Doreen, Shahar, Laurie, and Lynn, and a brother Larry. Roger also had many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Aside from his love of his family and friends, Roger never knew a stranger and was a very kindhearted man. His infectious laugh and positive outlook on life will truly be missed.
Roger’s grandpa, Greg, took him camping and fishing up the Bitterroot. Roger was starting early at 5 years old. His grandfather called him “the old man of the mountain.”
“Sometimes I don’t know where I am hiking, I don’t know where I’m headed or even where I am. In all my years at The Cabin, I’ve learned I need help in this big world to see where I’m going; I may need someone or something to point me in the right direction. My grandpa is my personal guide through the woods and through life. Not only has he taught me everything I know about hunting, but he has also taught me a lot about life. Be patient, be happy, life is good.
I believe if the world could slow down and practice the three things my grandpa taught me, no one would have to worry in the world, and they would appreciate being alive. If you’re grateful for the things you have, life will be good too you. Getting caught up in the everyday rush can be tiring for anyone. Finding a place to let everything go is a rare thing, luckily my cabin is that place for me. I am in a completely different world; one that’s hard to describe. It has changed me forever and helped me learn about the important things in life. It helped me become one with nature. Nothing compares to The Cabin. It’s my home.”
