Milton “Milt” Eugene Romick passed away peacefully of natural causes at the age of 89 surrounded by his two leading ladies on Friday, December 4, 2020 in Helena, MT. Milt was born in Melbeta, NE on June 30, 1931 to Fred and Anna Romick. Milt attended elementary school in Melbeta and high school in Belle Fourche, SD. While attending high school he enjoyed playing basketball and baseball. He graduated in 1949.
Within 3 years of graduating high school Milt met Mary Jane Brown in Scottsbluff, NE at a Polka dance and it was truly love at 1st sight. After a brief 6 weeks of courting, Milt and Mary Jane were married on December 7, 1952. Milt and Mary Jane spent 2 days celebrating their German wedding and then settled into farming in Belle Fourche. A couple years later Milt and Mary Jane started a new adventure. Following Milt’s parents to Roundup, MT they helped operate the American Theatre while raising their children. Chuck Eugene was born March 13, 1954 and 1½ years later they welcomed their daughter Ronna Rene, born September 28, 1955.
While running the theater, Milt joined the Army Reserve, serving for 8 years before his Honorable discharge in August of 1963. Milt also worked for the Roundup Sheriff’s Department.
Milt built their home in the American Theatre building where he and Mary Jane resided. After operating the indoor theatre for 13 years, the decision was made to close the doors. While Mary Jane attended beauty school in Billings, Milton built Mary Jane’s beauty shop within the theatre so Mary Jane could run her own business as a beautician, never having to leave the building.
In 1964 Milt became a full-time mail carrier delivering mail on foot to the residents of Roundup on the west side of town. He delivered mail for 28 year and delivered his last letter on October 30, 1992.
After Milt’s retirement from the Postal Service, he went back to what he loved, working for several ranchers in the Roundup area.
Milt had a passion for golf and was instrumental in the construction and maintenance of the Pine Ridge golf course. As a thank you for his hard work and dedication he was given a lifetime membership. He also had a love for bowling, once rolling an almost perfect game of 299!
Milt and Mary Jane resided in Roundup for 66 years. They were members of the Zion Lutheran Church. Ronna and Ted had just recently moved her parents to Helena to live with them.
Milton is survived by his wife Mary Jane and daughter Ronna (Ted); his sister Lucille Nuss of Scottsbluff, NE; his brothers Rodney (Mable) Romick and Tom Romick of Alliance, NE; Grandchildren Jason (Allison) Pfister, Utah; Jill (Rick) Evelo, Wyoming; Matthew (Rachel) Pfister, Hawaii; Scott (Amy) Pfister, Helena; Katie (Marc) Samson, Helena; Jaclyn May, Helena; Sara (Kellen) Sullivan, Helena, Christopher (Jen) Romick, Idaho, Melissa (Rich) Tilley, Billings; Great grandchildren Cassidy (Nathan) Miller, Zach Pfister, Andrew Evelo, Madelynn (Nick) Wood, Tyler Evelo, Brayden and Shelby Pfister, Kaleb, Kaden & Paityn Pfister, Kaylee & AJ Samson, McCoy May, Gavin Sullivan, Taeleigh Romick, Addison, Morgan & Kylee Tilley.
