Rosallie Eileen Ostwalt Miller (Sally) passed away peacefully from natural causes on November 21st. Sally was born September 20th 1932 to Henry and Olga (Kober) Ostwalt in Laurel, MT. She was raised in Laurel and graduated high school in 1950. She started her career as a bookkeeper following graduation working at Montana-Dakota Utilities in Billings. She married the love of her life, Howard P. Miller on August 2nd, 1953. To this union three sons were born, Scott, Kirk and Brad.
Sally and family made their home in Laurel until 1969, moving to Fridley, MN when Howard was transferred with the railroad. Another transfer brought Sally and family to Havre, MT in 1971 where she continued her journey until 2018. While in Havre, Sally worked at Northern Montana College (MSU-Northern) and then later in the Hill County Treasurer’s Office. She took great pride in her position at the Treasurer’s office, distributing and balancing the school equalization aid and warrants for school funding to all school districts in the county. Sally retired in 1989.
During her retirement she enjoyed playing pinochle, dominoes, supporting her grandchildren at their sporting events and traveling to see friends and family. Sally was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and was always a willing worker for the church’s bazaars, coffee hour and church receptions. She volunteered at the gift shop at Northern Montana Hospital and loved visiting with the staff, visitors and other volunteers. Sally was an active member of the Havre PEO Chapter AZ. Sally moved to Helena in 2018 to be closer to family. She resided at Touchmark retirement community in the independent living apartments. She made many new friends there and participated in the wide variety of activities that were offered. All who knew Sally knew that she believed in angels and had a beautiful collection of angels that always watched over her. We are happy to know that she now resides with the angels!
Sally was preceded in death by her husband Howard, her parents and her sister LaRue Freund. She is survived by her sons Scott (Terri) of Alliance, NE, Kirk (Nan) of Helena, MT, Brad (Bodell) of Mount Pleasant, SC. Her grandchildren, Jami Thompson, Brandon (Zoe) Miller, Brittany Miller, Katie (Danny) Wirtzberger, Scott (Jade McCormick) Miller, Dan (Leah Gavin) Miller, Miles Miller, Mikayla Miller.
