Rose Baum, 103, passed away on April 16, 2020 to be with her beloved husband. She was at her home near Winston surrounded by her loving sons.
She was born December 31, 1916 in Helena to John and Ella (Geary) Bryson. Rose was the 4th child of 8. She went to grade school at Spokane Creek and graduated from Helena High in 1935. After graduation she worked for Singer sewing machine company as a bookkeeper. On June 26th 1937 Rose married the love of her life Bud Baum, they lived on the ranch until 1954 when they moved to Helena. Starting in 1956 she was very involved with the family business of Bryson & Baum Construction. While living in Helena she worked for the Algeria Shrine office. In 1972 they bought the original Myles ranch and built their forever home in 1978, where they worked the ranch side by side for the rest of their lives. Mom enjoyed all aspects of the ranch life; cooking, she did the baling, helped feed the cows, always went along with Bud to fix fence and had a huge garden. Her door was always open for a visit with a fresh cup of coffee and home baked goodies. She also enjoyed watching her four- legged friends; elk on the mountains, bunnies in her flower beds and she even chased a bear off the patio with her dishtowel.
Her greatest passion was her family. Family gatherings were always an important part of mom’s life. She loved her mountain picnics, community dances, a good card game and a few good trips. She was a long-time member of the Broadwater County Cow Belles and always enjoyed helping with the rodeo BBQ.
Rose is survived by her sister, Hazel Trawick of Bozeman; three sons, Ed (Loyce), Dave (Barb), Dan(Ramona) all of the Helena area. Five Granddaughters who were always very important to her; Heidi(Mick), Renee’(David), Monica(Jim), Kim(Tim), Kay and 2 grandsons by marriage, Kerwin(Shirley) and Eric(Debra). Rose was blessed with 10 great grandkids and 16 great great grandkids and too many nieces, nephews and cousins to count. Rose was preceded in death by her loving husband Bud; sisters Lillian Myles and Helen Hodgson and her brothers Earl, Gary, Roy and Harry Bryson.
We would like to give a special thanks to Janine Haines for allowing Rose to enjoy the comforts of her own home the last 3 years of her life. Also special thanks to Compassus Hospice for helping us care for mom.
Rosie’s sweet and loving spirit will be missed but not forgotten. A cremation has taken place with a celebration of her life to be held at a later date.

It is with sadness that I read of Rosie’s passing. What a neat lady, and what a couple her and Bud were. I was fortunate to have shared a bit or their life and home lands. I let them down in the end, but I was forgiven by Bud, which meant more to me than most things have in this lifetime.
My condolences to the family. Ken Cook

what a legacy Rose has left for the Baum family. I was her banker at Mountain West Bank. My favorite memory was taking her and her sister to Missoula and they both rode horses at the carousal. I remember taking their picture and hoping that someday I would also ride the horses with my sisters at their age! Sweetest ladies ever! Blessings to all of you!

We had the great honor and privilege of having Rosie and Bud as neighbors for nearly 4 decades. We couldn’t have hand picked any better. They were hardworking, fun loving, family and community involved folks. Their home was always open and filled with smiles, laughter and fresh baked cookies. Rosie could put a delicious meal on the table in a flash! Rosie and Bud will live forever in our memories!

During a hot game of pinochle between Rosie, her neighbor Mrs. Clark, my wife and I, we discovered Rosie and I shared the same grade school teacher, Ms. Goodall (Rosie at the Spokane Creek school, and myself at the Canyon Ferry school 30 years later).
In our many visits with Rosie over the years, we witnessed a very caring lady with a remarkably gentle spirit and genuine love for people and the animals surrounding her home in the foothills of the Elkhorn Mountains.
If more folks were like Rosie, the world wouldn’t have the problems it’s experiencing today. Thanks for sharing Rosie with us. It was an awesome privilege.

Such a wonderful lady. She always had a smile. She was such great help for all our CattleWomen activities. She and Bud were great examples. What a loss to everyone. She will be greatly missed.

It was always such a joy to see Rosie with her three sisters together at family gatherings – usually large picnics – sad to say in the end it was usually at a funeral – but there were always such sweet smiles and warm hugs. I have always been proud that Rosie and I shared a Montana Pioneer Heritage together – her Mother, Aunt Ella Bryson and my Grandmother, Emma Warren, being sisters and daughters of our Grandfather, Michael Lewis Geary from Ireland. It was such a blessing that Rosie came to our last family picnic in 2018 at 101 years old. It was not as large as previous ones but I so wanted to share what my two sisters and two daughters had experienced at a Family Reunion in Ireland with Rose. She will be missed in this family.

We remember Rosie and Bud in so many events. They were such a great couple and so much fun. I so enjoyed my visits with Rosie in the last few years. She was sharp as a tack and amazing at her age. We talked about the books she was listening to on Books on Tape. What a wonderful service for her. So glad she got to stay on her beloved ranch and house. She will be missed. Fond memories for all of you and God bless. Hugs, Bob, Gay Ann and Leo

Rosie was always there for folks. Whether it was cookies and coffee every single time we stopped in
after hunting or welcoming an impromptu visit with her sweet and honest smile. She truly was the definition
of grace. I will miss the visits she and I had the last few years. I was privileged to have been able to know her
and her brother Earl, my mom Viola’s husband. This family is certainly “Salt of the earth.”

It is with great sadness we read of Rosie’s passing. She was such a genuine and beautiful soul. Both she and Bud made the world a much better place by being in it. You never felt like a stranger around the family and Rosie had that unique way of making everyone feel included and welcomed, like you’d always been friends. Heaven gained another angel.
To all of the Baum family, our family’s deepest condolences. It is always hard to say goodbye to our loved ones. Yet, what a true treasure to have Rosie in everyone’s lives. Again, our heartfelt sympathies to all of you.
Linda Grady says
We, the Grady family of Canyon Creek knew Roy Bryson, Dave Baum and I believe Ed and Eileen knew others of Rose’s family. It is a sad day when the good people of those days pass on to heaven. Growing up on a ranch was the best life and just hearing about Rose and who she was makes me strongly miss the good ole days. Bless everyone in this family.

Rosie certainly deserves her heavenly rest. She was a beautiful lady, she always had that beautiful smile and something sweet to say. We shared the counter making the Cattlewomen BBQ potato salad. It was a time of relaxed enjoyment because of Rosie’s easy and interesting manner of visiting. We have been blessed to have shared a part of Rosie’s life. Memories carry us through these difficult times.
Sending love and prayers to her family.

I was so sorry to hear of Rosie’s passing. Even towards the last year of her life I enjoyed stopping and visiting on trips between Helena and Bozeman. She was always so welcoming and gracious and was full of fun stories about the good old days. Both my parents, Henry and Velma Filson, thought so much of Rosie and Bud. She was a bright light in the world and will be forever missed. It was an honor to know you…
Rest in Peace, Rosie.
