Rose Lucille Overton, at the young age of 96, of Helena formerly of Great Falls, passed away Monday, March 25, 2013 at a local hospital after a brief illness.
Rose was born September 12, 1916 in Ismay, Montana to Ted Johnson and Mary (Baker) Johnson. She was one of nine children. After graduating high school, she worked various jobs.
Rose married Howard Overton they were married for 33 years before Howard passed away in 1970. She was a homemaker raising her children most of her working life. Rose went on to work at various restaurants in Great Falls and was a volunteer Grandma for Head Start for many years.
Rose was a member of the Baha’i Faith, Great Falls. She was an avid fisherwoman, being the oldest woman in Montana to hold an active fishing License on her birth date. She loved to knit and crochet and she made blankets for all her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She also liked gardening and canning, and taking care of her two dogs, Jade and Ginger. Rose lived an active life up until she passed away. She loved her children, grand-children, great grandchildren, and great-great grandson dearly.
Rose is preceded in death by her parents, her sons, Jean and John, and daughter, Julie. She is survived by her children, Joel Overton and Richard Overton of Helena, and Jim Overton of Washington; grandchildren, Victoria (Dana) Larson, Sandy, James, Chantelle, Denelle, and numerous others; numerous great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, Cameron. Rose is also survived by great friends and neighbors, Tori, Taylor, Macy, and Sue; and special friends, Peggy Farris of Seattle and Dana Larson of Great Falls.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, April 5, 2013 in the Highland Cemetery, 2010 33rd Ave. South, Great Falls. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, 3550 Mullan Rd, Ste 103, Missoula, MT 59808 in memory of Rose. Grandma rest in peace!! I love and will miss you lots!! It will not be the same at dads. I will miss you saying “are you hungry, want something to eat” as soon as we got out of the car. My boys will miss fishing with you. They would brag about what a great fisherman you are and that you could out fish anyone. Dana, Chase,Caleb,Cody and Chance will miss you too. I was so sorry to hear of Rose’s passing. I always looked forward to seeing her come into our office to buy her annual fishing license and to see that big smile she always had on her face. You will be greatly missed Rose. God Bless
