Roy James Smith was born on May 23, 1950, in Linton, North Dakota, the son of Carroll Keith Smith and Ruth Elaine Podritz. He graduated from Bismarck High School. He spent 20 years in the military (Army and Marines), later to work as an iron worker. He passed away at home of natural causes on October 12, 2016.
He enjoyed the belief of the Sioux Indian Tribe, Western movies, Raider games, NASCAR Racing, leather work, hunting (looking for Back-A-RACK), raising pigs, football boards and most of all , “Toys for Tots”.
He is survived by his children Jascon (Carla), Jesse (Megan), Ravae, James, and Trisha; grandchildren, Kayden, Madysen, Jake, and Lilly, siblings Gingerlee (Chris), Bruce (Karen), Mike (Pam), Cindi, Robert (Becky), Quin (Lisa), many nephews & nieces, great nephews & nieces, great great nephews & nieces, and his Laib-ation family.
Roy was preceded in death by his father Carroll, mother Ruth, wife Valinda, brother Kelly, and nephew Narles.
A memorial service celebrating Roy’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 17th at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home, 3750 N. Montana Ave. Interment with Military Honors will follow the service at the Montana State Veterans Cemetery at Fort Harrison. There will also be a gathering at Roy’s home, 7035 Jockey Road, following the Fort Harrison Interment. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to “Toys for Tots” (donation area will be available at the funeral home).
