On the evening of April 20, 2014, Ryan passed away at home with his family. Ryan faced his three year battle with cholangiocarcinoma with a positive attitude and incredible strength. His sense of humor put others at ease and could always put a smile on everyone’s face. He was always willing to help others in need, even when faced with challenges of his own. Ryan’s kind and caring nature towards young and old alike, has touched the lives of many.
Ryan was born on August 22, 1968 in Denver, Colorado to Maxine and Brent Tofflemire. He grew up in Dumont, Colorado with his sister, Marcyne and his brother, Kelly. Ryan went on the earn his BA from Rocky Mountain College in Billings and an MA from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. Ryan met his wife, Patti, at Rocky in 1989 and they were married in Greeley on June 5, 1993. Ryan and Patti were blessed with two wonderful sons, Cody, 14, and Justin, 12. They moved from Ft. Morgan, Colorado to Helena in 2004.
Ryan worked for Child and Family Services for 20 years in Colorado and Montana. His dedication to children and their families was both admired and respected by his fellow co workers.
In his spare time, Ryan enjoyed hunting, fishing, horseback riding, playing cards, and spending time with his family. He will be missed by all.
Ryan is survived by his wife, Patti; his two sons, Cody and Justin; his parents, Brent and Maxine Tofflemire; his sister, Marcy (Scott) Johnson; his brother, Kelly (Leigh Anne) Tofflemire; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

I am so saddened for your family. Ryan’s character, concern for others, and gratitude for his family and friends was displayed every day in Justin and Cody. I hope it is a comfort to all of you the boys are truly their father’ sons. Thank you, Patty and Ryan, for showing them courage and perseverance. They have been an example and blessing to all of us at CRA. Know that thoughts and prayers are coming your way.
Love,
Mary Anderson
Marty and Bonnie Clark says
Patty and family, so sorry to read about Ryan’s death. He was always up to a cribbage game with Marty and to visit while we spent our time doing treatment at cancer treatment center. We will be sad to think that he wasn’t able to beat the disease. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. He was always so upbeat even the last time we say him in march. 🙁

Dierk and Mary Brown says
We are writing this from Clear Creek County, Colorado where Ryan grew up, and while our memories of this fine young man have to do with his childhood, we have maintained a friendship with his parents over time. Brent and Max have always been full of stories about their cherished son and his family to keep us up to date. Perhaps our strongest memory of Ryan as a teenager was watching him play basketball with a brace on one knee. He had a talent for the sport, and the brace never slowed him down! We believe he showed the same determination as an employee of the state of Montana, a husband, and a father. His fight against the dread disease that took his life was remarkable. Our hearts go out to the Tofflemeier family. Much love from Dierk, Mary, Furman and Marty

I went to high school with Ryan and always respected him as a man of integrity, warmth and concern for those around him. Although I haven’t seen him for years, I will miss him.
Lynne' Ray says
Ryan was my older cousin and memories of him consisted of one huge smile that was always on his face and his awareness of others. I didn’t get to see him very much after moving to Oklahoma years ago but will hold fond memories of him in my heart . Praying for God’s love to be felt in a tangible way by the family during this time. ❤

Dear Patti, Cody & Justin,
I had the pleasure of working with Ryan for many years during his time with Montana CFS. He was always very supportive and complimentary. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this time. May you find some comfort in knowing he is now at peace and will be shining down on you all, and will be with you wherever you go.
Mary

Psalms 68:19, 20
May Jehovah God carry you through this time of sadness and may His wonderful gift of the resurrection inspire you to endure until, Ryan, returns in the Paradise.

Max & Brent –
It’s the hardest loss – a child before a parent. At first, the daily reminders are unbearably sad; but eventually the happy & fun memories outnumber the sad. And, the grandkids are your lifeline to their Dad. Take care of each other. Would love to see you if you are in Colorado.

I also went to high school with Ryan in Idaho Springs, CO [I was in Kelly’s class and my sister was in Ryan’s class]. We were so sorry to hear of his passing and are thinking of the Tofflemire family. Ryan was such a warm, caring, kind person — even back in high school! — and I was not surprised at all to read that he made a career in Child and Family Services. I have no doubt that he helped and inspired many people during his 45 years. I am thinking of your entire family and saying a prayer, especially for Ryan’s children. Please know that your Dad was a special person and he will always be looking out for you. With deepest condolences, Katie, Meg & Chip Stiff
