Samuel S. “Sam” Tielking, along with his beloved dog Sitka, were taken from us on February 22, 2017 in a tragic automobile accident.
Sam was born at St. Peter’s Hospital in Helena, Montana on February 9, 1992. He was the second child, and the first son, of Bridgett Nichola and William Scott Tielking.
Not long after Sam’s birth, his family moved from Helena to East Helena, Montana, where he spent most of his younger years. Sam attended Radley Elementary School and East Valley Middle School in East Helena, before going to Helena High School, where he graduated in 2010.
Sam wore many hats in his short career. His first job was cleaning motel rooms for Super 8 at the age of 14. He later worked for the Pepsi-Cola Co. in Helena, as a custodian for Helena Public Schools, a volunteer fire fighter and first responder in Jefferson County, for Bob Wards in Helena, and Lithia Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Fiat of Helena. Sam loved his time as a volunteer fire fighter, it truly changed his life. It was in Sam’s time working in the gun department at Bob Wards, that he discovered that he was a natural born salesmen, a talent that served him well at his final job at Lithia.
Sam also wore many other hats in his life. Sam was an incredible son, brother, grandson, nephew, uncle, friend, and most importantly, father. Sam loved his family, and would do anything in his power to help them. Sam was also a completely selfless person, always willing to help others, without asking anything in return.
Sam loved spending time with family and friends doing any number of activities. Hunting, shooting, off-roading, slinging mud…or quiet moments spent with family and friends. Sam had grown into an incredible young man, and an outstanding father to his daughter Maisie.
And yes, as many have suspected…Sam was Batman!
Sam was preceded in death by his nephew Wyatt.
Sam is survived by his parents, Scott Tielking and Bridgett Tielking, his beloved daughter, Maisie Leighrein Hermanson-Tielking, his siblings, Tia(Sam) Brassard, Zachary Tielking, Morgan (Nick Schiltz) Tielking, and Connor Stafford, his grandparents Charles and Donna Tielking, John and Cathy Nutter, and Rocky and Datha Pace, his great-grandfather Ernie Dygert, his great-grandmother Marian Pace, his niece Chloe Brassard, his nephews, Oliver Brassard and Maverick Brassard, Aunts and Uncles, CJ Tielking, Jon (Kristie) Tielking, Don Tielking, Steve (Christina) Tielking, Michaella (Dave) Sammons, Jennifer (Ryan) Medlin, and Amber (Tony) Peake, many cousins and extended-family, and countless friends and acquaintances.
Sam’s Family would like to thank all of Sam’s friends and members of the community for their generosity and overwhelming show of love and support.
A memorial service and celebration of Sam’s life will take place at 1:00 p.m., Monday, March 6th at the Lewis and Clark County Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall, 98 W. Custer Avenue, Helena. A reception will follow the service in the Entry Hall of the building. Sam’s family would like to ask that any donations be made to the Samuel S. Tielking Memorial Fund at Rocky Mountain Credit Union.

My Heart, Prayers and Love go out to ALL of Sam’s family and friends! I was fortunate to have spent a number of years with the Tielking family and even though that did not turn out to be forever NONE of them ever have left my heart. I have many, many memories of Sam and I will cherish them always! I was lucky and got to see Sam a few days before he left us to be with GOD, we spent the time catching up on everything, and also got some hugs and love ya’s! Prayers for GOD’s love and healing to ALL.

Jannice Odermann says
The memorial service was beautiful and a terrific tribute to a young man from a wonderful family. Sam’s dad spoke so eloquently and lovingly. I wasn’t able to get up and speak, but I want the family to know that not everyone who wanted to honor Sam was present today. If East Helena Schools could have closed for the day many many more people would have joined the service.
On behalf of EHPS I want express our deepest sympathy. This family is as always here to love and support you!!!
Mikaela Latka says
Sam sold me my college car. He was extremely nice and even came in on his day off to let us give it a test drive. We felt awful, but he said it was no big deal. I may not have known Sam for that long, but in the time I spent with him it was clear he was a genuinely kind person. May he rest in peace and be remembered forever.
Mark and Molly Bachmann Rochester, Wa says
Dear Tielking Family,
My wife and I met Sam a few years ago through our daughter Alex while they were dating and us visiting beautiful Helena. As a father I was always are little apprehensive when first meeting new people in our daughter’s life. Once talking with Sam about cars, sports, trip out to the Gates of the Mountains, dinner, tour around Helena, I could tell Sam was a genuine individual. And as I got to know Sam more, I became more impressed how intelligent and respectful of an individual he was, and being a responsible father. Praised him for recently buying a home. Basically when it got right down to it, he was the type of man every father (especially me) that hopes their daughter would meet up with and possibly get married too. He was an honorable man and I was glad to have had our lives paths cross. I would always tell Sam, once I am ready for a new car, you are the man.
Our family is sorry for your loss…..
Sam you will be missed……
