Sandra Claire Dundas (Sandi) went to be with the Lord on the afternoon of February 15, 2019 at St. Peter’s Health after a short battle with cancer.
Sandi was born October 29, 1950 at Mercy Hospital in Williston, N.D. and was the first child of Stuart and Thelma Dundas. Sandi was joined by brothers Jim in 1952 and Mark in 1955. They lived in Watford City, ND during her early years.
The family relocated to East Helena in 1962 where Sandi attended St. Ann’s School and met life-long friend Colleen (Kleffner) Schulte. Sandi then attended Helena Central High School where she made more life-long friends including Chadene Atkins. Sandi graduated from high school in 1969 and joined Colleen and Chadene at Eastern Montana College in Billings, MT. While in college, Sandi made more life-long friends including Barb Luscher and Linda Markovich.
After college, Sandi moved to Portland, OR where she lived for several years. One of Sandi’s favorite places in the world was Cannon Beach on the Oregon coast. She spent a lot of time there with friends and returned to Cannon Beach regularly even after relocating to Montana.
Sandi’s first and only child, Chad Stuart Dundas, was born on March 1, 1982 in Portland, OR. Shortly after Chad’s birth, Sandi moved back to Helena, MT. Chad was the greatest love and light of Sandi’s life, and became her purpose. Sandi raised Chad in a tight-knit community of her family and close friends. Sandi loved cheering Chad on in his various sports activities and taking him on adventures around the Pacific Northwest.
Sandi graduated with honors from Carroll College in 1991 with a degree in Education. Sandi loved teaching elementary school students. She also enjoyed her work as a waitress at Jorgenson’s and Montana City Grill. Sandi was very talented at cross-stitching, and gifted her family and friends with numerous beautiful pieces. She had a strong interest in genealogy and traced both family lines back to the early 1800s.
Sandi joined Narrate Church in 2014 and found her place where she truly felt at home with God and her community. Sandi was actively involved in a Women’s Bible study group through Narrate as well as several service and volunteer projects.
Sandi had a spirit of joy and positivity. Her presence was bright and cheery, and made gatherings so joyous and fun. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Sandi is survived by her son Chad; brothers Jim (Virginia) Dundas of Helena and Mark (Patti) Dundas of Billings; nieces Crista Tellez, Lindsey (Bennett) MacIntyre, Megan (Justin) Tinnes, nephew Tim (Becki) Anderson; and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and many loving friends which were like family.
The Dundas family wants to thank the kind nurses and doctors of the Oncology Unit at St. Peter’s Health for their exceptional and compassionate care.

Sandra was a member of our Helena Catholic Central High School class of 1969, the last class to graduate from Central High School. She was also one of a handful of students who attended Central after graduating 8th grade from East Helena’s St. Ann’s Grade School. As we prepare for our 50th high school reunion this summer, we are particularly saddened by Sandi’s passing. She was a wonderful classmate and friend many of had looked forward to reconnecting with. May a perpetual light shine upon her, and may she Rest In Peace.

I met Sandi as a co-worker at Montana City Grill so long ago. She quickly became one of my favorites, and most importantly, a dear friend. Her love for Chad, her brothers and their families, and her lifelong friends were things we talked about often. I am truly blessed to have had Sandi for a friend. I love you forever beautiful lady!

Had to take a big deep breath after just now hearing of Sandy‘s departure to eternal life. First met Sandy in the summer of 68 and followed her along with her friends at EMC over the next 50 years. Always have and always will admire Sandy. Sandy, you are now in the position to intercede for me and us. Rest in peace my friend. Prayers for family left behind, to strengthen their courage and understanding.

Sandi was one of the most positive people i knew. I graduated with her from Helena Catholic Central. Years later whenever I ran into her she was always smiling and happy to see me or Terri. Even when she was ill she was more concerned about how i was doing. I will miss the energy and kindness she always displayed to me. Rest in Peace Sandi.

We lived next door to Sandy following the passing of her dad, Stuart (on Clinton Street). She ALWAYS had a smile for us and we enjoyed many evenings in the back yards sitting by a fire and having a glass of wine. When we left EH, she came over to say good bye and had tears in her eyes which, of course, put tears in mine. We will miss Sandy. May Eternal and Perpetual light shine upon her. Rest in Peace my friend. We will miss you.

Sandy used to sub for me at Rossiter. She was a great sub! She was at Rossiter so much that she really was part of the staff. Sandy was always so warm and friendly…a joy to be around!

Sandi and I were classmates at Helena Central and were sweethearts for a time. She was always smiling and bright and funny. Any time she and I have crossed paths over the years she was always upbeat and positive, even when some issues in her life were not so positive. I know she was looking forward to our 50th reunion and we were all looking forward to seeing her. I regret that I am out of state and will be unable to join the friends and family to honor her memory and see her off into the next leg of her journey. I will be there in spirit. Rest In Peace, Sandi.

Sandi lived across the street from means I meet her 4 years ago. It was a time when she really needed help. She was a complete stranger to me but once we net we just clicked. We actually found out we had a lot in common. We had both been born in Williston, North Dakota. Through our visiting we found out we had both lived in Watford City, North Dakota! Different times but what what’s the likelihood of that! When I was caring for her when she broke her shoulder she told me about her Teaching at Rossiter School! Another coincidence?? My older long time friend from Watford City that I had met as a neighbor when I was just a young mother had also volunteered at Rossiter school. She knew Sandi and sent her a get well card when I told her what happened to Sandi. My dear friend passed away last year on a Friday too. God works in mysterious ways and I know he had a hand in Sandi and I meeting and becoming friends. I will miss her so much. I was blessed to call her my Friend

I was so sad to hear about Sandy. I meet her about 30 years ago when we both worked at Jorgensons and became good friends. Chad you were her world. I am sorry I can’t make her funeral because I will be out of town ,her family is in my thoughts and prayers

My family first met Sandi during the time she worked with my mother, Jane, at Jorgenson’s. She was sweet, kind and had a personality full of spirit and enthusiasm. She became a good friend of mom’s and even after she retired, Sandi would stop by the house to visit and usually had a birthday gift for her. And, whenever my path crossed Sandi’s, we’d always reminisce about the good old days at Jorgenson’s. Chad, I’m so sorry for your loss… you had the the best mom & friend ever. Peace

Sandi was a great teacher. I never had to worry when she was in charge of my class. The students and staff enjoyed having her a part of the class and school. She will be missed.

I was so saddened to hear of Sandi’s illness and passing — I had written her a note to tell her what a very special person she was to all of us, in our days at Helena Central High. I’m quite certain she never got to read those words, so I share them here — she was truly beautiful both on the outside and in her heart. Us Helena kids were thrilled when the East Helena kids joined us in high school and Sandi and Colleen brought so much joy to all of us. I only saw Sandi a few times over the last many years, and it was clear to see that Chad was the light of her life, and that she was the best Mom he could have had.
