Sarah Jane Nunn, 74, passed away peacefully early in the afternoon on October 11, 2015.
Sarah was born in Leavenworth, Kansas to Ralph and Ottilia Heintzelman. She learned her work ethic early by helping her Dad and brothers on the farm. She enjoyed gardening and planting flowers and her green thumb was evident both inside and outside her home. Her gardens, flowerbeds and gorgeous lawn were known by all, tended by a Master Gardner. She was a hard worker and passionate about giving to others, her faith and her family.
Sarah graduated from Immaculata High School and after completion she worked for the Department of Defense and traveled Europe. Upon returning to Leavenworth she met the love of her life LTC David H. Nunn and they married in 1971. Retiring from the US Army, they settled in Leavenworth and started their family raising two beautiful children, David and Melanie. She was the consummate mother and homemaker who loved to sew, knit, embroider, cook, can, and make jam. Sarah was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for friends and families – she could feed an Army. She could also outfit an Army being a master seamstress and keeping her children and grandchildren well kept. She also had a talent for shopping, one which she has passed onto her children. In addition to raising two children, Sarah worked in banking and insurance. Most recently she worked at AAA in Helena, MT as an Insurance Systems Coordinator and loved her AAA Family. She loved to travel, whether chasing her grandsons from one ball diamond to another or chasing her kids from one Army post to another.
Sarah is a member of St. Mary Catholic Community and was preceded in death by her husband in 2008. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers Edward (Theresa) Heintzelman and Michael Heintzeleman. She is survived by her sisters Irene (Fred) Frey and Mary Ann (Howard) Kennedy and sister-in-law Mary Heintzelman. She is also survived by her daughter Melanie and Tony Aguto, son David and Angela Nunn and her three Grandchildren whom she adored; Xavier, Micah & Asher Nunn, in addition to six beautiful grand dogs. Sarah also leaves behind numerous loving relatives and dear friends. She was the most giving and thoughtful Mom, Grandma, Aunt, Sister and Friend. She would do anything for anyone and put them above herself. Anyone that knew her was blessed to be part of her life. Her greatest joy in life was being a wife, mother and grandmother.

We are so saddened to hear about Sarah. We saw her just this weekend. She was a wonderful woman with a genuine smile that made you smile back. We know how much she loved her grandboys. We know that she will continue to smile down on them and watch over them. Our thoughts and prayers, David and Angela.
Denice Harris says
Nunn Family – I cannot tell you how deep of a hole Sarah’s passing leaves in the fabric of AAA MountainWest. She was a kind, loving, hardworking, sharp, dedicated woman right up to her passing. Her grace and classiness was felt every time she walked into a room. Her eyes lit up every time she told stories about her beloved grandsons. She loved them dearly. She was a true inspiration and I only hope I can be half the woman she was. Every winter I was so scared with her driving the roads from Townsend, yet every morning there was that black Subaru with Sarah behind the wheel, breaking the trail. Please know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers and know that your mom, grandma and sister made a lasting impression on us all. May the Lord keep you in his ever loving grace.
Michele Munsey says
Dear Family of Sarah,
My heart is heavy with the loss of our friend Sarah. She loved her family so much. We here at AAA knew that because when she shared stories about you it was as if the flood gates of love opened up. I knew how lucky you were to have her. We were blessed to have her as well. Sarah possessed probably the most admired work ethic of anyone I have ever met. Her attention to detail was impressive. For me personally, I always looked forward to our talks about sewing. Sharing the frustrations of an embroidery machine always made us laugh. What I loved about her most was that smile. It was the gift that kept on giving. May God wrap his arms around you and hold you tight during this sad time. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Nunn family–
I was so sad to hear the news of Sarah’s passing. I feel very blessed to have had the opportunity to work with her during my time at AAA. I enjoyed our talks about her family and grandchildren. They were the light of her life. She was a wonderful lady and will be greatly missed by all.
My deepest sympathy to all of you during this very difficult time.
Jane M. Stucker says
Dear Nunn Family,
Sarah and I and her family grew up together as we ran the fields and land of Kansas as Kids. I graduated from High School with her brother, Mike, and she was right there just behind us at Immaculata High School. Later when she married Dave, my two sons David and Matthew played with her children while we had coffee and talked about all the family news. We grew up with 29 first cousins, so there was always news. Later when my sons were starting college we moved out to just a half block from their house and I saw Sarah quite often. John, my husband, who is now deceased, used to help her with the computer when she first started working on them. What a time they had, but she was a determined lady and learned what she wanted to know. How I missed her when she moved to Montana. I have been in that beautiful area a number of times, but always before she moved there. After my husband died, I used to think how much fun it would have been to spend a long weekend there–but it never happened. I wish all of you my most sincere sympathy and may God bless you all. I know she must have been the best Mother and Grandmother ever. May you find God’s loving Peace as I know she has
. Now my Mother and her Mother, sisters, can watch over all of us. Jane Miller Stucker

I had the pleasure of working with both Dave and Sarah (at Reilly & Sons) while they lived in Leavenworth, both of which, were of the highest class of people you would ever know. I was very shocked to hear of her passing and want to extend my sympathies to Melanie and David and families. Sarah was a wonderful person, mom, co-worker and friend.

I am sorry that Sarah has died. Including our husbands, we had some good times together. I always found Sarah to be an upbeat person and fine company. Sympathy to the family.
Mary Jo Nelson says
I have many wonderful memories of Sarah. My Dad and Sarah’s Mom were brother and sister, when we were children our families would often visit each other’s homes. In those days before there were many TVs and no computers we made our own fun. Sarah always had a fun and lively personality. She will be missed by all.
My sympathy and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
