Sarah Porter Cazier, age 94, of Townsend, passed away peacefully 12 Dec 2016 at the Big Sky Care Center in Helena, from natural causes.
Sarah was born on October 9, 1922 to David and Jimmie Helen Porter in Laurel Mississippi.
She was raised and schooled in Laurel. Her hobbies included reading and spending time with family. After graduation with multiple degrees from Blue Mountain College in 1942, Sarah enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a yeoman to serve her country in World War II. While stationed in Jacksonville, Florida, Sarah met her future husband, Donald Ray Cazier, also a member of the U.S. Navy.
After discharging from the Navy, Sarah traveled by bus from Mississippi to southern Idaho to join Don. They were married September 5, 1946 in Marsh Center Idaho. Later they were sealed for time and eternity in the Logan Utah Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Following several farming ventures in Idaho and Montana, Don and Sarah moved permanently to the Crow Creek Valley of Montana in 1957 where they worked with Don’s father V.R. on the Park Trail Ranch. Additionally, Sarah provided much needed support on the ground and in the office of Don’s Flying Service, an aerial pesticide application and flight business. Sarah also operated a retail business, The Townsend Liquidation Center, which offered a variety of goods. Don and Sarah used their business ventures to train their children to have a strong work ethic. Sarah also used her business connections to promote the concepts of self-reliance and food preparation/storage to bless friends and family. Following retirement from their business ventures, they co-managed apartments in Townsend.
Sarah loved her family and serving the Lord. Often she awoke prior to 5 AM and didn’t retire until after 11 PM. Sarah believed in the value of education and used home-schooling techniques to prepare her children and others prior to formal education. Her life was spent in numerous volunteer callings and activities serving her family and fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. Many have said “If Sarah doesn’t make it to heaven. None of us will.”
Sarah was preceded in death by her husband Don, daughters Joyce and Betty, grandson James, parents David & Jimmie Porter, in-laws Vordis and Mabel Cazier, sister Helen Porter, brother-in-law LaGrand Cazier, sister-in-law Ann Cazier, sister-in-law Nadine Cazier, brother-in-law John Hansen, sister-in-law Janeal Hansen, brother-in-law Grant Hoffman, and many beloved Aunts and Uncles.
Survivors include daughters Carol, June (Dan), and Linda (Jeff), sons Donald Jr., Thomas (Teddie) and Joseph (Mary), brother James (Margie), brother-in-law Boyd, twenty seven grandchildren, twenty nine great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Fond memories of visiting Aunt Sarah and Uncle Don and spending time in the awesome Townsend Liquidation store. Loved visiting their home on Broadway in Townsend. She devoted her entire life unselfishly to her family. Much love to my cousins. Grateful she has completed her journey here on earth and has been reunited with such a large and loving family and many friends.

What a treasure Sarah was. She was such a hard worker. Her testimony was always solid and she never wavered. She was always pleasant and kind. She carried many burdens but never let that change her desire to serve the Lord. Many are waiting to greet her. What a joyous occasion that will be. Love to all of her family.
Carol Cazier Reynolds says
Burial will be by her husband and daughter and other family members in the Deep Creek Cemetery. The family would like to thank everyone for your love and support. May God Bless.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all the children of Sarah and Don. I remember many a good time, with Linda, at their home on the farm in Crow Creek and the home in Townsend.. I also remember the awesome nut fruit cake that Sarah would make and share with other family and friends at this time of year…That generation of men and women are truly exceptional and leave a big void with all who knew them.
May God’s blessings and comfort be with you all.
