On the night of May 18, 2024 Shane O’Brien suddenly passed away in Helena. He was 52 years old. He would have turned 53 the next day. He resided in Townsend, MT for 14 years. Shane was always known to be a caring and loving man who loved helping others in need. Shane was very smart and funny, he loved to tell jokes and make everyone laugh. He would always try to bring out the light in every situation. He was a good teacher to a lot of us and he even saved many of us from our own bad habits. Shane always seemed to know what to do in any situation no matter how difficult it might be. Shane loved to be outside, he loved to hunt, fish, hike, and to just be around family and friends.
Shane was born May 19, 1971 at 5:02 a.m at St. Peter’s Community Hospital and grew up in Helena. Growing up he attended school in East Helena and graduated from Helena High. He got his diploma in Wildlife/Forestry Conservation from the North America Correspondence School. He then went on to get his Degree of Associates of Applied Science in Computer Technology/Microcomputer Applications and Programming at the University of Montana. He became a computer programmer for the state of Montana FWP. He is proceeded in death by his father John Robert O’Brien and survived by his mother Diane Kay O’Brien, his step-father Charles Laffley, his son Shawn Robert O’Brien , his daughter Shaniah Diane O’Brien, his two grandsons Jessie and Jameson, his fiancé Beth McArthur, his sister Brandy and her boys Oren, Jeremiah and Decker, his sister Sheila and her two boys Killian and Kyle and her daughter Angie, his brother Loren and his son Caleb and daughter’s Kaylee and Danni.
A memorial fund has been set up at Opportunity Bank under the name “Shane O’Brien memorial fund” and a go-fund me account has also been set up. We appreciate all the love and support the community has offered during this time, and we appreciate each and every one of you. Shane’s funeral service will be held at the Elkhorn Community Fellowship in Townsend on June 8th at 2PM. A reception will be held after the service.
