Shirley M (Fietze) Lindquist passed away on July 19, 2017 at St. Pete’s Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Shirley was born on December 12, 1924 to Max & Louise (Weyhmuller) Fietze in Chicago IL. After High School, she continued on and graduated from Selan’s System of Beauty Culture in October 1943.
Shirley married Enard “Swede” Lindquist on November 3rd, 1943 in Sarasota Florida. In her early years, Shirley worked as a cook in the mines, a hair dresser and in retail sales. After settling in Montana, she worked at the Parrott until she retired in 1988.
Shirley was an avid gardener and loved to can everything that came out of her garden. (What she didn’t eat picking before it got to the house!) She loved her dog Riley who was always by her side. She was proud of being a “Grand” Aunt – not a triple Great Aunt – but a Grand Aunt. She loved sharing stories about being raised in the depression, picking huckleberries (even with bears around), fishing and grouse (mountain chickens) hunting. She was a very strong independent lady.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, (including those 4 “Grand”) and has rejoined her beloved husband and family in heaven.
Interment will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 24th at the Montana State Veterans Cemetery at Fort Harrison. Memorials in Shirley’s name are suggested to Lewis & Clark Humane Society, P.O. Box 4455, Helena, MT 59604 or to the Montana State Veterans Cemetery, PO Box 5715, Helena, MT 59604.

I met Shirley through Dusty at the Parrot. After we were married and I went to work there, Shirley taught me everything about the candy business and customer service. I haven’t seen her in several years but always think about her come summer — she grew beautiful flowers and always shared her garden goodies. Pam Duensing
