SPENCER REED VORAN
March 12, 1945 – July 19, 2018
Spencer Reed Voran passed away in his home at Spring Meadow Resources’ Hudson House in Helena, Montana on July 19, 2018, succumbing to lung cancer.
Spencer was born in New York City on March 12, 1945, the son of Reed Daniel and Joella Virginia Voran. His father was serving in New York with the FBI during WWII, before moving his family to Muncie, Indiana.
In Muncie, Spencer attended Burris School through first grade, when he went to Vineland, New Jersey for school until 1966. He returned to Muncie and began working, first at Hillcroft Services. He then held jobs at Ball Memorial Hospital, a meat processing plant and at Dr. Norm Miller’s Veterinary Clinic.
Spencer moved to Montana in 1982. He worked at Helena Industries and became a client of Spring Meadow Resources, which provided living and support for Spencer. Some years ago Spencer retired from Helena Industries and began participating in Spring Meadow’s Creative Activities Program (CAP), where he continued to work on a part-time basis.
During Spencer’s lifetime he enjoyed animals, working, walking, bowling, swimming, traveling, watching sports on TV and attending AA meetings. He loved jokes and teasing. He had a keen sense of humor. There are many stories about Spencer’s antics. He had some faces he liked to make. He was a gentleman and appreciative of all the support he received.
Favorite Spencerisms are: ‘I’m all right.’ ‘Is that fair enough?’ ‘Am I right?’ ‘Oh, really!’ ‘You’re pullin’ my leg!’ ‘Tell me another one!’ ‘You first…’ ‘So far, so good.’
He was preceded in death by his parents, Reed and Joella Voran. He is survived by his sister, Patrice Young and husband, Andy, in Lakeside, Montana; his brother, Brice Voran and wife Chris in Walloon Lake, Michigan; niece Kate Voran and husband Robbie Magrane in New York; and nephew Reed Voran and Traci Christofore, and daughters Stevie and Joey in Florida.
Spencer chose to be cremated. His ashes will be buried with his parents at the Lone Star Cemetery in Pretty Prairie, Kansas. A bench and a tree in his memory will be placed near the pond at Spring Meadow Resources.
A memorial service will be held for Spencer at Spring Meadow Resources, 2850 Broadwater Avenue, Helena, Montana on Wednesday, July 25th at 1 p.m. Arrangements are being made by Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials in Spencer’s name should go to Spring Meadow Resources or Frontier Health and Hospice in Helena.

Spencer was my introduction to the Voran family and I thanked him often for that. Many, many pleasant times were spent with his parents, his siblings, and with Spencer. My sympathy and greetings to all.
