Stanton (Stan) Seibert Howe was born to Seibert Wesley and Alvina Howe Morton 12-29-1942. He died unexpectedly on May 19th, 2021. He spent his youth on a farm in Westmore, MT. Stan was blessed with a mechanically talented father from whom he learned much and would explain Stan’s interest in old cars. He attended elementary school in Westmore, High School in Plevna, started college in Dickinson, ND and finished in Billings, MT
He taught in a rural school north of Baker, MT then Roy, MT and finally in Helena. While teaching school he started a thriving business repairing violins and guitars. He later went to auctioneer school and became a licensed auctioneer. Stan held 435 auctions through the years and sold millions of dollars of “stuff”.
His father was a fiddler and from him Stan learned to play fiddle which he did solo, in groups such as the Montana Old Time Fiddlers, and with friends playing music in Montana and at one point performing in Las Vegas at the Golden Nugget. By far his first passion in life was music, which he played for nearly 60 years. From that time, he developed many lifelong friendships. Many talented musicians are so thankful that he put them on the road to playing fiddle and guitar music.
Preceding his death, he stated that the recently completed auction would probably be his last. Little did he know that such a prophesy would come true.
Stan is survived by brothers Leonard (Jeanette) of Tacoma, WA, Donald (Ruby) of Billings, MT, Jerry (Jean) of Mission Viejo, CA and sister Audrey Hill of Lambert, MT as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Viewing will be from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. with a funeral service to begin at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 1st at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home, 3750 N. Montana Ave, in Helena. A reception will follow the service in the social hall at the funeral home. Burial will take place at noon on Saturday, June 5th at the Community Union Cemetery in Plevna, MT.

Stan Howe was a highly respected and loved member of the Model T community in the United States and around the world. He will be sorely missed. We do not see his like often.
Greg Scott says
Stan was such a fine fellow. A great musician, teacher and friend. We were roommates a few times at the Cody Gathering and Elko. He visited us here in Arizona and made a great impression on our kids. I listened to his radio program often and still listen to cassettes of his songs. I’m so sad he is gone. I expect he’s already busy with Sean and Duane and Liz in the Angel Band
Fred Schrope says
Stan was probably the most multi-talented fellow I ever knew. His memory – and stories – and music will last here for a long time.
RIP, and keep the stories and music going.

Stan was a great friend to anyone who owned a Model T. We had him do our youth foundation auction several times on MTFCI Model T tours and he always made it an enjoyable evening for everyone, especially the youth who benefited from his expertise. He lived a full life and will be missed.

Don Nance says
We were neighbors with Stan back in the early 70s and he became a family friend. Stan was very talented in anything he turned his hand to. May God bless him and his family.
Maurice Dyer says
The world is a lesser place without the earthy analysis, wisdom, joviality, and loving care for others. Stan’s continued involvement and clear perspectives on the youth around him reminded all of us, where our future stability will be based. The hills are silent, the valleys weep, the long grass bends its head, the grain stands tall in his absence. We will drive our Model T and remember Stan at his best, auctioning for youth, entertaining the old, and treating the country to his music. Now it our responsibility to carry these higher standards forward in Stan Howe’s memory and honor.
Margaret Woo says
I met Stan just after he retired from teaching in the school system, but was still giving lessons and selling violins & fiddles. He was also just beginning his new career as an auctioneer. He seem to have a lot of irons in the fire, a great car collection, and lots of good stories. I always enjoyed meeting with him and am sad to learn that he has passed, gone too soon. RIP my friend.
Verta Dorseth says
Stan was a great mentor to many students at Twin Bridges High School and a loyal Falcon Fan. His big smile and winning personality will be missed. God gained an angel with a big heart and great musical ability🎶❤️
Jody Sandru says
Hello, I am a teacher at Twin Bridges High School. Stan was a beloved Falcon fan and started attending school events when his beloved Savanna and Spencer Stewart were in Twin Bridges elementary school. He quickly became our school’s loyal fan and would help any student in any way he could. Of course, he would never want anyone to know about it. For Business Professional of America, he would volunteer and entertain at our annual talent show to send students to the National Leadership Conference. He raised money for our music department and helped out our FFA program with auction items. I have never know a more generous man. We both loved Ray Price and I loved all his country western singing stories. He holds a special place in so many hearts in our little town, and especially MINE. I hope he is singing with the angels and enjoying heaven’s glory. Forever a Falcon–you taught us so much about being a giver and words cannot express my gratitude.
Kimberly Davis says

Stan was an amazing man. So many talents that he shared with others. His musical visits to the kids at Camp Huff ‘n Puff for kids with Asthma were special times at camp for the kids as well as the staff. I remember when he thought the magpie should be the Montana State Bird. Many of us agreed with him since we had so many in most parts of the state and you knew they were there. Stan will be missed.
Butch Huizinga says
I don’t think I’ve met a more multitalented man! I’ll miss your stories and your humor.

Montana lost one of the best story tellers ever. There was never a lapse in conversation when Stan was with your group. He was a great friend to us and we will miss him. Fiddle on Stan- everyone in Heaven will enjoy. Our prayers to the family.
John & Joyce Van Hassel says
We were shocked and terribly saddened to hear the news of Stan’s passing. We met Stan in the early 1980’s and enjoyed many hours with him flying airplanes, boating at Canyon Ferry, helping with his early auctions, listening to his stories, and sharing dinners. Stan was intelligent, funny, and above all a loyal friend who willingly gave his time and energy to help us whenever we got in over our heads on some old vehicle project.
Sadly, we didn’t see Stan as much as we would have liked in the past year thanks to the pandemic. We wish we could have had one more holiday dinner with him, or even just drop in and spend a couple of hours seeing what new projects he had in his shop. We will miss him very, very much.
Salty Payne says
Most of the antiques in my home are the result of Stan’s skill as an Auctioneer. He had the ability to get me to bid on things I wasn’t sure about, but he never sold me anything I didn’t eventually use and love. Stan was not just an Auctioneer but also an entertainer and he brought that skill to every auction. I rarely missed one of his auctions in almost 30 years! We will miss him very much!
Terry Woods says
In the last decade, I had Stan rebuild two Stromberg carburetors for me. One year before the Chickasha Oklahoma swap meet, I mentioned on the Model T club forum, that I would be there, and I could be recognized by the Bob Wills western swing music, coming from my CD player. That’s how I met Stan in person. He contacted me and told me he’d bring me a demo CD of his. I will never get tired of listening to his music and I count myself fortunate to have received the CD gift from him. Not every member of the Model T club can say that.
Keith Johnson says
I fondly remember receiving my first fiddle from him in grade school, over 25 years ago. As I remember it, he even cut a new bridge to fit the instrument as I watched, something I doubt any shop would do today. My condolences.
Del Lonnquist says
Always enjoyed your visits to Kicker FM 104 when we would talk about why you should go to Nashville and record your LA Freeway song.
And all our lunches with Mike Logan..
Sorry I can’t be at your service.

So sorry to hear of Stan Howe’s passing. I always enjoyed his music programs on MTPR. He seemed like a lovely person.
Maggie (Estes) White says
I am heartbroken that my good friend Stan Howe passed away. He was always so generous, encouraging, and fun! He was a cowboy at heart, a musician, a radio show host, an author, a Model T expert, an auctioneer, and the list goes on and on. To me, he was a wonderful friend who shared a love of music and touring. I’ve known him since I was 4 years old and he was always there to encourage me along my musical path. I got all of my fiddles through him, from the smallest to the full size I play today. Whenever we talked on the phone, I’d ask “How are you?” and he’d reply, “Better, now that I’m talking to you.” He was a delight to chat with, and we would tell stories and laugh on the phone for hours at a time. He was such a supporter of anything I made and would play my CDs on his radio show. When I first played at the Grand Ole Opry, Stan even sent me roses to be waiting backstage. Whenever I played in Montana, he would drive out to see me and insist on taking me out for a steak dinner. When I got married, he flew all the way down to Nashville for the wedding.
I’m going to miss him so much, his voice, his stories, and his sweet notes of encouragement written in his unmistakeable classic handwriting on top of a cowboy watermark. Thanks for all the beautiful memories and music, Stan.

Phil Jamison says
Stan obviously had many talents and interests. I knew him in his capacity as a master carburetor rebuilder. Not just any carburetors, but “brass” carburetors; the early kind used on automobiles before the First World War. His work in this area was just beautiful, as was the free advice he gave on the subject! When he finished restoring a carburetor, he would send the owner a photograph of it on red velvet. He had them buffed up like a display in Tiffany’s. How he found time to do all to do all those other things, I’ll never know. It was my pleasure to have known him, even from afar.
H.M. Yaple says
Stan came to the Cody Western Music fest twice that I know. The high point of the first conference was Stan singing his Along the Yellowstone waltz. The sun was just going down on the Beartooth Mts, the room totally silent, the audience transfixed by that magic performance. It pleased me to know that I had purchased his CD
with that song he wrote. I listened to it many, many times. The second time he came to Cody I had an opportunity to speak with Stan, and mentioned that moment to him. He stopped, looked away and said, “It was the best performance of that song I ever did. Thank you.” I thanked him and bought another CD, which he signed. It was a rare privilege to meet that very special man him and to listen to the music he composed.
Bill Bickle says
Extending sympathy to the Howe family during this sad and unexpected time. Stan’s personality was bigger than the great outdoors. Through all of his accomplishments in life he never forgot Westmore and he had a great love for the place he grew up on.

We first met Stan at an International MTFCA Model T Tour in Cochrane Alberta. A great story teller, an awesome singer and that fiddle!! Rest in peace my friend. The old car world will miss you greatly.
Scott Conger says
Stan and I met years ago in So. Dakota on a National Model T tour. Years passed, and much later and most recently, we emailed, compared notes, and commiserated on carbs, life, and things in general. I surely wish I’d taken the time to get up to his shop to visit personally. A lesson for all to heed…if you care, do not delay, for we don’t know what tomorrow will bring.
Most sincere condolences to his loved ones and those who he cared for and impacted in their life…Stan was an Original and will be sorely missed by many.
Harry & Rosalie Lillo says
We go back over 30 years with our common interest in Model T’s then fiddles with our son as a fiddle player. We spent time touring together in Canada and the US ,chasing old rusty (and sometimes bright shiny) Model T Ford parts,
attending Stan’s auctions but mostly just visiting and talking. Perhaps more to the point we were listening. Stan loved to talk and was good at it.
With the COVID border closure we had not been able to get together recently but kept n touch by telephone and email.
We will miss you Stan…….Rest in peace
Monte Anderson says
It seems like everyone knew Stan. Everyone that got a chance to know him gained a great Friend and Mentor. I’m happy to have known him and will miss his pearls of wisdom, humor, and passion for music.
Rest in peace, Bud, and my condolences to all family and friends.

Dear Howe family and friends of Stan,
We are so sorry to hear of the sudden passing of Stan. I am writing this in connection with my brother Bob, who was in Stan class (Bob leaves the writing to me).
Memories do abound of Stan and the Howe family. We lived next door to Olive “Grandma” Howe for many years in Plevna. What a great experience that was! So we knew the Howe family well. I was very young when Len graduated but Don was in the class of 1952, Jerry was in the class of 1956 the same class as my sister, Carol, Audrey followed in 1959 and my brother Bob was in the class of 1960 with Stan. They remained life-long friends. We were tightknit and knew everyone.
Stan and his family prevailed with meager resources, as many people did in those days. Stan never let that stop him. He was a person of multiple talents. He was not afraid to plunge into uncharted territory. He was a school teacher, musician, auctioneer, had an encyclopedia of car knowledge and an expert on Model T’s. Early on he began developing these abilities and they carried him through life.
He will be missed especially at our reunion this summer. Our thoughts and prayers have been with you.
Sincerely
Darrell (and Bob) Losing

I met Stan probably 15 years ago looking at stuff !
He had some cook stuff too. Later I bought at bucket from him. That was a great purchase. Got to see him at a few auctions and we always had a good laugh and time while I was bidding!
We just talked and laughed before the last auction up in Shelby. I was going to try to get up to see him and make a bid or two. He always wanted me to bid more! Lol
It was a shock to hear about his passing. He will be missed. Prayers to his family. God bless .

Sure is great to read all the wonderful tributes to Stan! I knew him from his long tenure as president of MSOTFA, District 3, Montana old time fiddle group. One in a million, what a guy… he will be missed , gone to soon.
