Steve Ballenger, age 78 went to be with our precious Lord and Savior on June 4, 2019. Steve was born May 11th, 1941 in Walkerville, Montana to Clarence and Dorothy Ballenger. Steve was the 3rd of 6 children.
On July 3rd, 1964 Steve married the love of his life Faith (Downs) and their wonderful marriage resulted in the birth of two children, Sheriann (Fredericks) and Todd Ballenger. Steve worked at a variety of jobs including logging, 17 years for the Anaconda Company where he worked as an underground miner as well as a heavy equipment operator at the Berkley pit. In 1984 Steve moved to Billings where he worked for the Department of Defense as a mechanic for 19 years. Steve also served 31 years in the U.S. Army Reserve. Steve continued his work for the DoD in Helena where he moved in 1987. Steve and Faith spent the rest of his life in Helena.
Steve’s love for horses was only surpassed by his love of hunting and fishing the beautiful mountains and streams of southwest Montana. After retirement Steve spent a lot of time traveling including many trips to Hawaii and multiple cruises.
Steve is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Faith, daughter Sheriann and son Todd. In addition, Steve is survived by his grandchildren Stephanie Ballenger-Brooks, Christopher Ballenger-Brooks, Rochelle Fredericks, Brittany Ballenger and Adriana (Ballenger) Knott and her husband DJ Knott as well as 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Barbara (Allen), Linda (Cerise) and Delpha (Curran) as well as brothers Glenn Ballenger and Brett Ballenger and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at Helena First Assembly of God Church, 2210 Dodge Ave, Helena, MT 59601. A reception will follow the celebration of life in the fellowship hall of the Church. A private graveside service will be held at Montana State Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Steve’s name may be made to Frontier Home Health & Hospice, 800 Front St., Helena, MT 59601.
