Steve Christiansen passed away at home on Christmas day, 2023 in Helena, Montana. Stephen Ray Christiansen was born to Vivian Mae (Collins) and Alfred Gordon Christiansen on December 14th, 1948 in Crescent City, California.
Steve spent most of his life in Olympia, WA and worked at a few local companies after high school; including Raudenbush Automotive and Delson Lumber. While working at the mill he was drafted for Military Service into the Army, eventually reaching the rank of E5 Sargeant. After discharging from the Army he came back to Olympia and returned to the mill. He took up auto body work, spending the majority of his career at Bernie’s Custom Paint where he enjoyed customizing Corvettes and other vehicles.
Steve enjoyed motorcycle riding and taking his bike on cross country trips. He also owned a motorcycle shop for a period of time in downtown Olympia, C&H Cycle. Steve enjoyed NASCAR and was a crew member on his brother-in-law’s team, doing body and paint work on his car. Steve’s interests included anything mechanical. He was very detail oriented and had to know how everything worked. His many years in autobody work led him to go out on his own and open his own shop, trying his hand once again as a business owner with his bodyshop, Collision NorthWest. One of the many interesting projects that came through in that short time was the David Pearson 1968 NASCAR Torino that he did the body and paint work on. He had a unique sense of humor with many sayings that will continue to be repeated for years to come.
Steve married Rae Hume on April 15th, 1978. The marriage lasted 10 years but they remained in contact until her death on June 1st, 2021. He was also proceeded in death by his parents and his older brother Ron. Sadly a few weeks after Steve’s passing, his younger brother Wayne also passed. He is survived by his sisters, Vicki (Harald) Jones and Mary Ann Christiansen; his children, KC (Duane) Cordiner, JR (Laura) Christiansen, Krista Christiansen; and his grandchildren; Adam Cordiner, Navarro Christiansen, Kian Christiansen and Evan Christiansen.
