Steve Russell Shelley age 54 of Helena

Steven Russell (Rusty) Shelley. March 4,1967- November 9, 2021

His parents Clarence and Alena (Lynn) Shelley and sister Sheila Shelley Sewell (Brian) welcomed him with joy. Steve grew up in Gold Creek and attended a one room schoolhouse until the sixth grade. He then attended school at Powell County High School where he graduated. Steve was active in golf, football and assorted shenanigans with his many good friends.

After graduating Steve joined the US Navy and served in Desert Storm as an electronics engineer. He served overseas for 5 years and then came back to the USA and trained officers for the remainder of his time. He completed his service and was honorably discharged as an E5 while in Pensacola, FL 1996.

It was here that Steve met the love of his life and wife of 25 years, Shirl. They were married August 31,1996. The couple were blessed with 5 boys. Ron Fisher (Savannah), Anthony Fisher (Melissa), Aaron Armstrong (Ivy), Jesse Shelley and Josiah Shelley. Steve and Shirl were also blessed with 10 beautiful grandchildren. Steve and Shirl’s marriage was built on their love and trust in God.

Steve had built long and close friendships with Jeremy Mygland, Martin Glascock, Randy Pennington, Brian Sewell, and many others.

Steve enjoyed hunting of all kinds, fishing, long distance golf, travelling with Shirl, playing with his grandchildren and camping with his family. But the main joy of his life was his relationship with his lord and savior Jesus Christ. As God’s teacher he spoke with conviction, passion, and truth till the very end and will be missed by not only his family and friends but people all around the world. Steve and Shirl had a heart for Uganda and its people. They fed the poor, built schools, and supported ministries throughout Uganda. May the words of God that Steve brought to light continue to bless others until the day of our Lords return.

Steve is survived by his wife Shirl, his sons Ron Fisher (Savannah), Anthony Fisher (Melissa), Aaron Armstrong (Ivy), Jesse Shelley and Josiah Shelley, sister Sheila Shelley Sewell (Brian) and many extended relatives.
