In Memory Of

Steven D. Divine, age 63, of Helena

April 2, 1957 – June 19, 2020

Steven “Steve” Dean Divine, 63, of East Helena went to be with the Lord on, June 19th.

Steve was born on April 2, 1957 in Spokane, WA to William “Bill” and Shirley Divine. Steve became the middle child with big-sister, Shirley and younger brother, Vince. Steve started school in Spokane and moved to Montana in the 7th grade. At that time, he joined his father Bill and Diane Divine and siblings Dan and Shannon. Steve graduated from Capital High School in 1976.

After high school, Steve worked briefly at Asarco and Tabbert Construction until he found his true passion – Playing in the Mud, concrete. Some say he was the best concrete finisher west of Winston. In 1981, Steve married Pam Bengtson and welcomed their children, Brittany, and Brennen. They were later divorced. In 1994, Steve married Sherry and blended the family together with Zach and Mary.

Steve was a kind-hearted, quiet, generous, and loving soul. Steve enjoyed many things, but his true passion was hunting, fishing and being in the outdoors. He always said that the mountain was his church. He enjoyed teaching his kids how to work for what they want, and he practiced what he preached. He taught his kids the ins and outs of hunting, how to read the mountain, and how to respect the animals. Steve loved to be at hunting camp, at his pool and anywhere surrounded by his friends and family. Steve took pride in his concrete work. He enjoyed being on the jobsite and his mind was always on work. He even turned his sons and his wife into concrete finishers! Steve’s legacy will live on in the work he completed and in his kids.

Steve was a devoted grandfather to Aspyn and Brooklyn. They meant the world to him. Steve was always teasing and trying to play practical jokes on them, since they were the easiest targets. Steve was looking forward to the new grandson, Finn, on the way. Steve touched many lives and will be deeply missed.

Steve is survived by his wife, Sherry, his daughter Brittany Divine, son Brennen Divine (Melina), son Zach Raymond (Kelli), daughter Mary Tripp (Buck), and daughter Angie Stinchfield (Luke). Grandkids: Aspyn Raymond, Brooklyn Weiss, McKenna Weiss, Skyleigh and Jaxon Stinchfield, Stepfather: Dee Quinton, Siblings: Dan (Cheri) Seed and Shannon Thomas. Brother-in-law Glen Sutheimer. Steve is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents; Bill Divine and Shirley Quinton, Diane Divine; sister; Shirley Sutheimer, brother; Vince Divine and nephew; Steven Divine.

A Memorial Service is scheduled for 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 30th at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home, 3750 N. Montana Ave. A Reception will follow at Steve and Sherry’s House, 16 Seventy-Nine Slash Rd., Helena, MT 59602.

Steve’s entire family, so sorry for your loss. Today as many times over the years I have thought about, an episode way back in the day. I / we tried to out run a highway patrolman on my 360 Yamaha, Steve was on the back. We were unsuccessful, Rick Westlund East Helena’s Chief of Police teamed up with the Patrol and took us down. Cost me $160.00 in fines. We had a blast growing up in our day, Steve lived a good life at good time. RIP Brother. Scott St. Clair

I’m saddened to know that my dear friend/ classmate/hunting buddy has left this world. I will cherish the memories of Steve and his dad Bill up in Whites Gulch after a full day hunting sitting around the fire telling jokes, passing around the blackberry brandy and planning the next morning hunt. To his children.. I remember Steve bringing you up to Whites many times when you were young. Brennan do you remember my chickens chasing you and you ran to your dad crying? I can still see your dad holding you in his arms and laughing as he chased the chicken off! Sherry… sweetie I remember you and I going to Steve’s house to pick up something he gave me to put on my elk scull and you were; I believe “In love at first sight.” You said OMG would you introduce me to him!…..and as they say “The rest is history!” Honey I’m sad beyond belief. Please know that I love you and my prayers are with you and your families. I will miss miss my dear friend. He was one of my favorites.

Uncle Steve….When I was a kid nothing got me more excited than finding out we were coming to visit you. I have visions of the bears that stood in front of your house all the time and will never forget how you scared me like I’d never been scared before when you took me on my first ride ever on a dirt bike!! I’ll never forget Your gentle demeanor and kind heart. My dad idolized his big brother but could never figure out why you liked Steve Miller band so much! 🤔 I also idolized you Uncle Steve. I know you Guys are together now..And though it breaks my heart to know I’ll never hear your voice again I know the angles in heaven are rejoicing. Thank you Uncle Steve for always being there for me when I needed you. I will carry you in my heart forever!
    Love always,

I was just thinking about you last week as I was going through Montana on my way to Kansas City Missouri to see my dad and I saw the Helena sign on the way there I felt like taking a left and going and seeing you guys cuz you’re always telling me to come see you when I pass through. On the way back I felt like taking a right and going up and seeing you guys but as usual I’m always in a big hurry to get home or hurry to get where I’m going and I didn’t ever take that left or right turn. I sure wish I would have now. This last time would have been in vain because you had already passed. Now the chances are over. Rest in peace Steve. Say hi to Vince for me and Shirley I miss them all dearly and Steven your nephew and Shirley Lee. I go up and see them often. The world just got a little dimmer without your light in it. Rest in peace my friend.
