Steven Thomas Schenk was born on May 21, 1952, in Springfield, Minnesota to Robert and Elizabeth (Hofmann) Schenk. He was the youngest of (5) siblings. He moved to Hall, Montana with his family in 1957. He attended grade school in Hall and graduated high school in Whitehall, Montana in 1970. In July 1970, he enlisted in the United States Army and served in Vietnam until April of 1972. He went to work for General Electric in Butte and later transferred to Gillette, Wyoming. In 1987, he returned to Montana and worked as a mechanic and in various other trades. He met Kathy Hoge in1989 and married her in 1997 in Bozeman. They moved to Helena in 2006 to be closer to family and friends and to watch their grandchildren grow. He was loved by family and friends for his clever wit, sense of humor and joke-telling ability, specifically about “Ole, Lena, and brother Sven.” Steve is preceded in death by his parents Bob and Betty Schenk and sister-in-law Geri Hoffman. He is survived by his wife Kathy, two daughters Michelle Wolstein and Robin (Shawn) Graham, grandchildren Treg and Haven Wolstein and Dylan and Cole Graham, two brothers Dennis (Carol) Schenk, David (Nancy) Schenk and his sisters Judy Schenk and Janice (Larry) Steiger, brother-in-law Don (Butch) Hoffman and several nieces and nephews.
We wish to thank the Veteran’s Administration (VA) Medical Center at Fort Harrison and Cooney Health Care for the excellent care, professionalism, expertise, and compassion while caring for Steve.

A memorial service for Steve will be held at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home, 3750 N Montana Ave., Helena, MT 59602 on Monday, November 10, 2025 at 11am. Following the memorial service, a reception will be in the funeral home’s social hall. Burial of cremains will take place at 1:30 p.m. at the Montana State Veteran’s Cemetery- Fort Harrison, 3550 Heroes Rd., Fort Harrison, MT 59636. Condolences can be shared at www.aswfuneralhome.com.
