Tary Lynn (Wallace) Mellen, age 49, died June 26, 2012 from complication from Asthma she has had since a young child. Tary was born in Helena, Montana July 9, 1962 to Mary Ann and Wesley Wallace.
Tary was raised in a mining family, she moved often with her family. She attended grade schools in Philipsburg and Troy Montana; Grants, New Mexico; Creede Colorado; Lead, South Dakota and Elliston, Montana where she graduated 8th grade. Tary attended high school in Deer Lodge. Tary entered the Job Corp in 1978 and received her GED diploma while serving in the Job Corps out of Anaconda. She transferred with the Job Corps to the Oregon Coast which was a very memorable time of her life.
Due to her poor health, Tary never was able to have a full working career. She worked a short time tending bar in Elliston and also working in a cedar mill in Idaho. She loved horseback riding, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, four wheeling trips, and motorcycle riding.
Tary loved little kids and animals of all sorts. She had a favorite kitten “Sassy” and a Pomeranian “Angel”, she raised from babies. Her special place was at her grandfather, John Miller’s cabin up The Little Blackfoot out of Elliston. Tray and Fred T. Mellen were married on October 29, 1982 in Colorado. They were later divorced, but remained very dear friends. Tary and Fred were together as companions and friends up until the time of her death.
Tary was preceded in death by grandparents, John & Gladys Miller of Elliston; Harvey Wallace of Weiser, ID; Ethel Fox of St. Maries, ID; step-father, John Fee of Helena.
She is survived by her former spouse and life companion, Fred Mellen of Cataldo, Idaho; son, Dustin “Dusty” Mellen and his wife Katie (Gillette) of Reading, Massachusetts; father, Wesley Wallace of Livingston, MT; mother, Mary Ann Fee of Helena, MT; brother, Eugene Wallace and his wife (Laura) of Avon, MT; sister, Lorri Bigelow of Helena, MT; nephews, Jacob “Jake” Wallace of Bowie, TX, Andy (Jennifer) Wallace of Helena, MT; nieces, Becky Wallace of Avon, Cami (Kevin) Smith of Helena, Katrina Bigelow of Helena; aunt, Donna (Ron) Weber of Elliston; Uncle, Walter Wallace of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and several cousins and their families.
Cremation services have taken place in Idaho and there will be a graveside ceremony 1:00 p.m. Saturday August 4th, 2012 at the Elliston Cemetery.
