Tom “Simmy” Simmons passed away on May 31st, 2020 after battling a long term illness.
Tom was born in Brookings SD on March 2, 1949 to Cleo and Wayne Simmons. He graduated from Brookings High School and after being discharged from the Army, attended South Dakota State University and the University of Oregon.
Tom was drafted into the Army after high school during the Vietnam Era. He served at Fort Hood and his overseas deployment was in South Korea. He was proud to be a Veteran.
Tom was hired as an AV library clerk at OPI and went on to retire from the State of Montana as a fiscal manager after 29 years. He also enjoyed 15 years working for Walmart before his second retirement.
Tom was an avid MN Vikings and Twins fan. Just after the new US Bank Stadium opened, he attended a Vikings game with his wife and son.
Simmy had many memorable times with friends and family. He was good with trivia and even tried out for Jeopardy. Simmy really enjoyed card games, especially his pinochle games with card playing buddies-Bob, Gene and Sven. He was the designated score keeper and was always up for a game.
Survivors include: wife- Pam; son-Tyler (grandpuppy, Fiona); siblings- Gloria, Brenda (Bob), Dawn, and Brian. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, Aunts, Uncles, cousins, mother-in-law and sister and brother in-laws, and his many special friends (in Helena and Brookings).
No services planned at this time. His ashes will rest at the VA cemetery in Helena.

Tyler so sorry to hear of your fathers passing. Prayers for you and your mother during this time of sorrow. I worked with Tom at Walmart the last 15 yrs. we will miss seeing him. Peace be with you

I was so sad to hear of Tom’s passing. Gene is my grandfather and often times I dropped in while they were playing cards. Very serious business 😃 I also worked with Tom in fiscal. I pray time will heal the void in your hearts.
