Rodney Thomas “Tom” Landry passed away March 9,2023 at home surrounded by family after an extended illness. He was a good soul with a strong heart. He never met a stranger and would always take time to visit with friends and neighbors.
Tom was born the youngest of four children to Paul and Wilma (Barrick) Landry in Helena on September 8, 1936. He graduated from Helena High in 1955.
After high school, he joined the US Air Force where he trained as an airplane mechanic, eventually working on the new B-52 bombers. He was very proud of his military service and maintained friendships with his Air Force friends throughout his life.
Tom met Edith “Edie” Brown when he returned to Helena after completing his military service. They were married in Helena in 1961 and spent their early marriage years moving throughout Montana as part of his job with Mountain Bell. They eventually settled back in Helena where he continued to work for the phone company until his retirement from AT&T in 1991. They were the proud parents of three children: Monique, Martin, and Marion.
He was fond of spending time outdoors–fishing, hunting, camping, shoveling snow and trimming his hedge. Many adventures were had exploring the mountains of Western Montana and Yellowstone National Park in the family camper. In later years, he enjoyed having his children and grandchildren visit.
He liked working with his hands and was adept at fixing things. Working on cars was a passion that began as a teen and he continued throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Wilma Landry; brothers Pierre and Roger; and sister Nola McLane. He is survived by his wife Edie, and children Monique (Bob) Clark, Martin Landry, Marion (Dave) Schultz and grandchildren Mollie (Talha) Ahsan, and Tom Clark. He is also survived by brother in-law and sister in-law, Jim and Betty Brown and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Carolyn, Angie and Barb at St Peter’s Hospice for the care and assistance that they provided to Tom and the family during his final weeks.

My parents (Frank and Pat) and I lived across the street from Tom and Edie for many years. Tom, dad and I spent many enjoyable hours playing cribbage and other card games while working on our house. Also I worked many years with Tom at AT&T at the Montana City microwave site. Tom was a fantastic mentor, work companion and friend. He will be missed but I can see him and my dad playing cards in heaven.
