Traverse Shea Crider, age 91, of Helena, passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at a local care facility in Helena.
Traverse was born September 20, 1921 in Kingston, Minnesota to William and Aubine (Shea) Crider. He attended schools in Kingston and Kimble, Minnesota before enrolling in the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1939 in Minnesota. While in the Conservation Corps, he worked general field projects, building and construction before being honorably discharged in 1940. Traverse was then inducted into the United States Army on October 16, 1942. He served his country in World War II in Campaigns through North Africa, Italy, and Sicily until his honorable discharge on November 19, 1945.
After his service, Traverse worked for Emily Lumber Company in Emily, Minnesota. In 1961, he moved to Helena, Montana and worked at Foley’s Mill, Montana State Department of Revenue, and the Montana State Department of Transportation before his retirement. He married Stella ‘Sally’ Brannan and three daughters were born. They later divorced. Traverse enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family.
Traverse is preceded in death by his parents, William and Aubine (Shea) Crider; an infant daughter, Brenda Crider; infant sister, Elaine, sisters, Marjorie, Gloria, and Hazel; and brothers, Maxwell, Kingdon, Herbert, Merrill, and Gordon. He is survived by his daughters, Lila (David) Pierson of East Helena, MT and Marsha Crider of Helena, MT; grandchildren, Ryan Pierson of East Helena, MT and Kristi (Jeff) Schell of Billings, MT; great-grandchildren, Megan and James Schendel of Billings, MT and Lucas, Harper, and Emmett Pierson of East Helena, MT; brothers, Clinton (Doris) Crider of Helena, MT and Jackson (Maxine) Crider of Jefferson City, MT; and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 9, 2013 at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home, 3750 N. Montana Ave., with a reception to follow the service in the Banquet Hall of the Funeral Home. Burial with Military Honors will be held at the Montana State Veterans Cemetery, Ft.
