In Memory Of

Travis Hernandez, age 13 of East Helena

February 24, 2006 – February 8, 2020

On the evening of February 8th, two weeks before his 14th birthday, Travis gained his angel wings at home in East Helena.

Travis was born in Helena on February 24th, 2006 to Katie and Jason Hernandez.

Travis was a gifted athlete with a passion for hockey. Travis’ love of hockey started early in life. At the age of three, he was lacing up his first set of skates. Often times we would find him trying to lick the ice through his helmet. He has been a long time teammate on the Helena Bighorns Youth Hockey Team.

In addition to hockey, Travis loved rodeo, soccer, baseball, swimming and Jiu Jitsu. He enjoyed movie dates and road trips with mom; hunting and fishing with dad; hiking and biking with grandma and grandpa, and spending time with family and friends. He also enjoyed campfires and listening to music with friends. Travis was a bright, kind and caring young man with a big heart. He loved his family and friends, and was a ray of sunshine to everyone around him. He received many awards at school and took the most pride in his work as a conflict manager at Kessler Elementary.

Travis is survived by his parents, Katie and Jason Hernandez; his brother Trevor; maternal grandparents Mike and Willa Sheard; maternal great grandma Louise Wilson; paternal grandpa Rueben Hernandez and paternal great grandpa Al Frezzette.

A service celebrating Travis’ life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 14th at the Mount Helena Community Church, 1710 National Ave. Please join us in celebrating Travis’ life by wearing lime green to brighten the room.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to Breathe Let’s Start a Conversation. Help bring awareness to the seriousness of suicide and help those during their darkest time. Please visit below to offer the family a condolence or share a memory of Travis.

You were honestly everything to me. I can’t express how hollow and numb I feel now. I still can’t believe this horrible tragedy. I’m so so sorry. You always had my back and picked me back up on my feet. You were just always a shoulder to lean on, you were so funny and kind and just my friend. I miss you so much. This is really pulling me down, I’m not sure if I can stay strong. Everything feels so dull, so empty. I’m grieving for you and your family. Again, I miss you so much, I would do anything to get you back. I’m so sorry.

    Mike and Willa,
I recently stumbled across the news of the loss of your grandson. I am so terribly sorry for you all!
Memories flooded forward of the two of you with Katie as a toddler and me teaching her how to say: “Ahhh, good booze” when she would drink from her sippy cup! I was also reminded of the time she pooped while you were in KMart and it fell out of her diaper and she picked it up and handed it to Willa who, in a panic, proceeded to ditch the evidence in a fake potted plant!
My prayers for peace and warm memories are with you all!
