Velma Hazel (Rose) McElravy, age 93 of Helena passed away on March 4, 2011 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Helena. She was born in Townsend on November 13, 1917 to Clifton D. and Hazel (Seaman) Rose.
Velma attended schools at the Franklin School House on Dry Gulch in Broadwater County and High School in Townsend. During WWII, Velma was employed at Douglas Aircraft manufacturing Aircraft Bombers. She also worked for 16 years at the Boulder River Hospital before she retired.
Velma enjoyed many hobbies which included gardening and “Kicking” old stumps, camping and floating the river.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Myrtle Williams, Gertrude Richtmeyer, Lillian Perkins, and Naomi Rose; and her husbands, Vernon (Jiggs) McElravy and Vernard Wooley; infant son, Timothy Wooley.
Velma is survived by her children, William C. (Jan) Wooley of Missoula, Daniel P. (Virginia) Wooley of Helena and James L. (Marguerite) Wooley of Cameron; sisters, Mahalia Healy of St. George, UT and Jennie Crum of Boulder; brother, Arthur Crum of Missoula; 11 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

I worked with Velma for several years at Boulder River School and Hospital. She was fun to work with. She was an energetic fun coworker. She truly cared for the residents in her charge.
