Vera Marie (Bergum) Stamy, 94, passed away January 6, 2016, at the Touchmark Senior Living facility in Helena, Montana, due to natural causes. Vera was born August 22, 1921, in Melstone, Montana to Herbert and Flora Bergum. She attended high school in Cascade, Montana, while residing with her family in Wolf Creek, Montana. After high school graduation, she moved to Helena where she met her husband, Del Stamy. They were married August 10, 1946 and were married just short of 65 years, when Del passed away in 2011.
In the first few years of marriage, Vera was employed as a bookkeeper for an accountant in Helena. After their first child, Edward, was born, Vera chose to stay home to raise him and his sister, Judy, who was born two years later. Vera loved cooking and baking, always had a spotless home and the kids were always “squeaky clean.” Vera was an excellent seamstress and sewed many clothes for her family. She also enjoyed needlepoint, wood carving and painting. She had a very good sense of humor and loved to kid and laugh. Vera kept her family well fed, well clothed, well disciplined, and well loved. After the kids were grown, she and Del enjoyed golfing and dancing for many years. During their retirement years, they spent many winters in Borrego Springs, California, where they enjoyed hiking and long walks. In 2001, they moved to Touchmark.
Vera is survived by her son Edward (Carolyn) Stamy of Libby, her daughter Judy (Sam) Murfitt of Helena, granddaughter Lisa (Ted) Steiner of Whitefish, granddaughter Lori (Mark) Quinn of Frenchtown, great-grandchildren, Ruedi Steiner, Eli Quinn and Mason Quinn, sister Betty Lloyd of Stevensville, step-grandchildren Marc (Peggy) Murfitt, Aimee (Rhett) Shein, and Ashlee Mihelish, plus numerous step-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Del; parents, Herbert and Flora Bergum; sister Ruth Braun; brothers, James Bergum, Donald Bergum and Elmer Bergum.
The family sends heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to all of the staff members at Touchmark who provided excellent care and were of assistance to Vera in the years she resided there.
A memorial service will be planned for this spring. Memorials may be sent to the charity of your choice.
