Vickie May Hill Dimock beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, family cheerleader, memory keeper and friend passed away on May 15, 2023 in the loving arms of her family after an arduous battle with pulmonary veno-occlusive disease complicated by COVID.
Vickie was born January 4, 1947 in Spearfish, SD and grew up in the small mining town of Lead, SD were she was the second of seven children to William and Evelyn Hill.
She was the eldest daughter of a big, loving family that owned the Nugget Cafe in Lead, SD. It was from her mother, Evelyn, that she learned some of her kitchen wizardry. If you were lucky enough to feast around Vickie’s table you were fed body, mind, and soul. More important, you were welcomed as family and made to feel you belonged simply as you are.
She briefly attended Black Hills State in Spearfish, SD to become a teacher. It was there in botany class she met the love of her life Terrance Edward Dimock. As a young couple they enjoyed hiking and exploring in her beloved Black Hills. They were married on August 24, 1968, and she gained more family to love, when she was welcomed into the Dimock clan.
Family was Vickie’s greatest joy; and on February 20, 1970 she and Terry welcomed daughter, Deanna Marie, into their loving arms. Four years later on July 21, 1974 came their beloved son Edward Gordon. Later, her children would go on to marry and to increase the love in her life with new children, her son-in-law Dale Hause and daughter-in-law Beth Dimock. She loved all her family; but her pride and joy were her beloved grandchildren, Joshua William Hause and Emily May Hause, whom she adored.
Vickie had an open heart and mind and a curiosity about others and life. She loved learning, taking the road less traveled, and exploring in person, through books, and later online this beautiful world we live in; which was a trait she inspired in others. She enjoyed the arts and was a supporter of many artists. She was a life long fan of the music that her family and friends made around her. Family and friends that she loved like family will fondly recall numerous camping trips, picnics, and travel adventures where she would always plan for and pack the best meals and snacks… even if they did sometimes fill up a separate tent.
Vickie lived a quiet life of service to others and worked as a teacher’s aide in Rapid City, SD; with developmentally disabled adults in Shelby, Montana; and, spent 31 years as an optician and manager for American Eyecare in Helena, Montana.
Vickie’s disease process quickly robbed her of her simple pleasures and joys – hiking, gardening, warm baths, a glass of wine, shopping for and preparing her next culinary masterpiece, and long talks with loved ones. In true fashion to her nature, she adapted with dignity, quiet strength, and grace and embraced new joys and relished the remaining. She never gave up her love of reading, learning new things, being a kind or curious listener, shopping online for the absolute most perfect treat or gift for loved ones, and surrounding herself with her greatest joy of all – her family.
She is missed immensely by all her family now and forever. She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Terrance Dimock, daughter Deanna Hause and her husband Dale, son Edward Dimock and his wife Beth, grandchildren Joshua William Hause and Emily May Hause, siblings and spouses William (Marcia) Hill, Sandra (Thomas) Burt, Melvin (Sally) Hill, Rebecca (Joseph) Ulmer, Albert (Alan) Adler and Lori (Gary) Martin; siblings-in-law, Thomas (Betsy) Dimock, Michael (Catherine) Dimock, Susanne (Doug) Brost, James (Margaret) Dimock, Janette (Delmar) Rumph, Kathleen Dimock, Mary Lupinetti, John (Michelle) Dimock, and Joseph Dimock and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to the Glacier Park Conservancy or Helena Food Share.

We were shocked and saddened to learn of Vickie’s passing. She was a gentle and loving soul and devoted to her family. Conversations with Vickie were always highlighted by news and activities of her kids. She was such a proud mother and devoted wife. She will be greatly missed, but wonderful memories will keep her close to those she loved.

Deanna,
I saw your mom’s obituary in the Shelby Promoter and wanted to extend my condolences. What I remember most about your mom is her beautiful smile and that she was raising one of the nicest girls I had ever met.
It is incredibly difficult to lose your mom and I wish you didn’t have to join the club quite so soon, but know that even though the tears never end, they become part of sweet memories and smiles and laughter do eventually tag along with those memories as well.
With Love & Sympathy,
Cris (Hagen) Lund – Shelby Class of ’88

I am so saddened to hear of Vicki’s passing. She was a delightful personality and I loved getting my eyeglasses from her. She always made sure I got the best deal and I appreciated it. I loved seeing her at Musical/Jazz events cheering on Josh. I enjoyed her conversations so much and the twinkle in her eye as she told a story. God Bless all of you in this difficult time.
