In the early morning of Friday, April 5, 2024, Vicki passed away peacefully at Cooney Healthcare and Rehab Center in Helena, Montana.
Vicki was born March 26, 1940, in Lewistown, Montana to Conrad Leander Rue and Hazel May (Jacobs) Rue. Vicki was the oldest of three children. Eventually, the family moved to Orcas Island (WA) where Vicki grew up with a few cows, pigs, chickens, rabbits, and a fruit orchard. Near her home Vicki was seen riding up and down the hills of Orcas Island selling her greeting cards to the neighbors. After a few years they moved to Portland, Oregon. Family, church, and education were always priorities.
Vicki attended Park Rose High School (Portland), graduating in 1958. She then attended Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington, where she met a good-looking soldier, Jim Poore. Jim and Vicki were married June 24, 1961. They settled in Three Forks, Montana, where Jim worked at the talc plant. Jim and Vicki’s four children were born in Bozeman, and Vicki completed her Bachelors’ Degree in Elementary Education from Montana State College Bozeman in the spring of 1969.
The family then moved to Hamilton, Montana where Mrs. Poore began teaching second grade. In 1974, the Poore family moved to Helena, Montana, where Mrs. Poore taught in the Helena School District. Vicki attained her Masters’ Degree from Lesley College in Cambridge (MA) in the field of Language Arts in 1994. She retired from teaching in 2002 with her final school being Four Georgians Elementary.
In retirement, Jim and Vicki built their dream home at Canyon Ferry Lake where they enjoyed drives around the lake and deer in their yard. Favorite moments were spotting a doe with triplets in their front yard or a huge buck just across the road.
In 2021, Jim and Vicki moved to their Musselshell home in East Helena due to health issues. Vicki was in and out of health facilities throughout 2023 and 2024.
Vicki (Mrs. Poore) loved music and reading but wanted her students to be capable in all areas. Her students gifted her many Christmas ornaments over the years, and she could remember where all of them came from. They were all cherished and kept. Many times she would hear, “Mrs. Poore!” in the grocery store, and in later years, she would hear the same friendly greeting in the clinics and hospitals.
The continued family legacy of love and support is evident in the lives of her loving husband of 62 years, James Phillip Poore of Helena, Montana and children: James C. Poore of Draper, Utah; Michael (Lynn) Poore of Salt Lake City, Utah; Michelle (Steve) Ringdahl of Oakes, North Dakota; and Tamara Poore of Helena, Montana. Surviving grandchildren are Nicholas (Emily) Pericich of Belgrade, Montana; Cody (Sabrina) Pericich of Dallas, Pennsylvania; Shane Ringdahl (Matt Leidholm) of Mandan, North Dakota; and Tyler Ringdahl of Oakes, North Dakota. Surviving great grandchildren are Rocco and Lena (Cody and Sabrina) and Cami and Dean (Nick and Emily). She is also survived by her sister Kathi (Dennis) Rolfe and brother CJ (Gayle) Rue, and one brother-in-law, Mark Poore.
Vicki was preceded in death by her parents, Connie and Hazel Rue, her daughter-in-law Cami (Mike) Poore, and grandson Gary Pericich.
May God bless the memory of Victoria Ann Poore.
