Virgil Joseph Bontempo age 87, of Helena passed away September 10, 2010.
Virgil was born in Butte on February 27, 1923, the second son of Margherite and Ernest Bontempo of Meaderville, Montana, where he resided for many years. He later moved to Helena where he has lived for the past 56 years.
Everyone who knew Virgil loved him and appreciated his ready smile, easy laugh and happy disposition.
He is survived by his brother, Dominick Bontempo, nieces Judy Cusick and Margie Schenk and husband Ted, of Butte. He is also survived by nieces Mary Ellen LaRue and husband Gerald, and Jonelle Ropolo, all of California. Others are his life-long companion Mary Bing, his many friends at Eagles Manor in Helena, his caring associates at Spring Meadow Resources and his co-workers who he worked with at Helena Industries for many years.
He was preceded in death by his brother John Ropolo and sister-in-law Gertrude, brother Eddie Ropolo, sisters, Maddelena Ropolo of Butte, Norma Lucas and Lillie and Tony Borsella, of California.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on September 29, 2010, at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, 1700 Missoula Avenue in Helena at 12:10 p.m., with Father Bart Tolleson officiating. A reception will be held in the lower level of the church immediately following the Mass.
Interment will be at the Mount Moriah Cemetery in Butte. It’s a happy day in heaven because Virgil has arrived.
He’s now in our Lord’s presence, a goal for which he strived.

Virgil was one of a kind, I always loved his beautiful smile and the positive attitude he always had. Mary and family, I am so sorry for your loss, but just know that Virgil is in Heaven with God and they are always watching over you.
My prayers and thoughts go out to all of you – he will be sorely missed. He lived a beautiful live and was a beautiful person – I feel priviledged to have know him.
His spirit lives on through each one of you.
