Virginia Claire Trerise passed away peacefully on April 25, 2016, in Helena. Virginia was born September 20, 1921, in Quartzburg, Idaho, to Even and Mabel Olson. She attended school in Quartzburg and Placerville until a fire destroyed the town of Quartzburg. The family moved to Superior, Montana in 1932 and lived there until 1936 when they moved to Helena where her father worked at Porter Brothers’ dredge. She was one of the railroad coach kids following the 1935 Helena earthquake before graduating in 1939. She married Walter (Wally) Trerise in 1943.
Mom loved socializing. She and Dad enjoyed many travels and activities with their wide circle of friends. The cabin at Canyon Ferry was especially appreciated for social and family times, laughter, music, and of course love.
The word “gracious” is defined as: marked by kindness and courtesy, marked by tact and delicacy. Our Mom was indeed gracious to one and all. She also greatly loved and was fully committed to our Dad and to our family.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sisters Evelyn (infant) and Marie Russell. She is survived by her sister Betty Emmons, daughter Terry (Vern) Raymond, sons Robert ‘Bob’ (Clare) Trerise, Richard ‘Dick’ (Diane) Trerise, 8 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren (with one more on the way), one great-great-granddaughter, numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends.
Special thanks Bonnie and the staff at Rosetta Assisted Living for their great care and kindness to Mom. Thanks also to Pamela for caring for both our parents.
A service celebrating Virginia’s life will be held at St. Peter’s Cathedral, 511 N. Park Avenue, on Friday, May 13, 2016, at 2:00 PM. There will be a reception immediately following the service at the Green Meadow Country Club, 2720 Country Club Ave. Burial will occur at a later date.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this sad time. Virginia was such a special lady and I am honored that I was able to be her caregiver. She is now at peace and free from the Alzheimer’s that held her prisoner for so long. She’s back in Wally’s arms and I’m sure they are dancing and smiling and happy to be together again. God bless you all…

Jeannene (Baxter) Maas says
Dick, so sorry to hear of your loss, and thank you so much for taking time to contact Mom to let her know —- she was so touched by your thoughtfulness at this sad time for you.
I grew up hearing many stories of how much Mom & Dad (Lyle & Ruth) enjoyed time with Wally & Virginia —- the bond between our families goes way back, and very deep. Dad graduated from the boxcars, and said that entire experience helped him learn gratitude for friends and family.
Sending many hugs and prayers from all of us to all of you.
