Walter Ervin Tietz passed away peacefully on Dec. 23, 2013 at St. Peter’s Hospital, Helena, Mt. with family at his side. He was born Feb. 19, 1933 in New Leipzig, ND to William and Erma Tietz. He was oldest of three siblings and is survived by Elmer Tietz (Billings, MT) and Ed (Debra) Tietz, (Gorton, SD).
Walter joined the U.S. Army and severed in the Korean War from March 1953 to March 1955 and was honorably discharged. Walter married Iris Zeller on June 26, 1955 in New Liepzig, ND. Shortly after their marriage Walter attended Bismarck Junior College earning his degree in Engineering and worked for Skarr Engineering and Froschel & Son’s Company. He also did Millwright work for many years. Walter enjoyed fishing (ice); wood working and spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Walter is survived by his wife Iris Tietz, Helena, MT; and 4 children, Linda (Paul) Eason (Summerton, SC); Rick Tietz, Helena, MT; Jennifer (Roger) Thompson, University Place, WA; Wayne Tietz, Helena, MT. Grandchildren: Susan Gunsch, Grayson Gunsch, Jay Gunsch, and Katelyn Thompson. Great -Grandchildren: Cierra Ring, Ryan Howse. Great-Great Granddaughter Savannah Ring. Walter will be greatly missed by all.
A visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday December 26, 2013 at Retz Funeral Home 315 E. 6th Ave Helena Montana. A Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. on Friday December 27, 2013 at the Montana State Veterans Cemetery with full military honors.. A great friend who I respect a lot. I treasure the memories of little hobby projects we worked on together in the 90’s.
I thank Walt for his service to our country a long time ago. Military honors at Fort Harrison
pleases me. The final respect of our country and other veterans that Walt deserves.
