Waverly Marie Hall was born to Wally Hall and Theo Brown on May 26, 1951, on the Blackfeet Reservation. She spent her younger years with loving grandparents Philip and Charlotte Roy then later went to live with Theo who had married Eddie LeMieux.
Her notorious adventures extended through graduation from Browning High School in 1969 and on to Carroll College in Helena. At Carroll while working a campus job, she met Nate Engebretson. Their son, Erik, was born in September 1971.
Erik and Waverly moved back to the reservation in 1972 in hopes for a better life closer to family. That same year, she began working for Blackfeet Law Enforcement, where she held various positions until 1995. Later worked for the BIA until 1997.
During that time Waverly met the father of her daughters and became the mother of Courtney, Megan, and Brittney. These girls remained the center of her universe and she was their rock throughout her life.
Waverly demonstrated a courage and resilience that few are equipped with, when she relocated to Helena in 1997 with her girls and not much else. She made Helena her home until her death on October 28, 2025.
While establishing herself in Helena, Waverly attended Helena College for two years before she accepted a job at the Montana Department of Transportation. Her quiet grace and unyielding integrity served the Director’s Office for a decade after which she made the transition to MDT’s Payroll Section where she worked for nearly 10 more years until she retired in 2020.
Of all the things in the world, Waverly loved her family most, especially her brother Ted Hall and his family. The two cherished spending time together and watching each other’s children grow and flourish. She loved outings with her granddaughters Mason and Mariska. Waverly’s circle of friends also grew and flourished as she shared her beautiful spirit and generous heart with those who deserved it. All counted on Waverly for many things, except during NASCAR season, when her top priority would be cheering #24 Jeff Gordon to victory and domination. Then later the #9 car Chase Elliott.
Waverly is preceded in death by daughter Megan Engebretson; grandparents Phil and Charlotte Roy; parents Theo and Ed LeMieux; Ardis and Alvin (Fat) Hall; Wally and Marishia Hall; and her sister Stephanie Hall.
Waverly is survived by her children Erik (JoAnne), Courtney, and Brittney Engebretson; brother Ted (Janel) and family; grandchildren Chance, Mason, Morgan, Tristan, Theo, Madison, Mariska Lynn, and Grady; great grandchildren Mila (Aria), Bjorn and Odin; and sisters Becky Running Crane, Teri Ball, and their families. She is also survived by her loudest admirer and devoted granddog, Benny.
The family wants to thank the St. Peter’s Hospital team and all family and friends who have reached out to us during this trying time.
