Rev. Wayne A. Fisher, age 78, died June 28, 2011 after sustaining extensive
injuries from a fall in Helena, Montana. His wife of 52 years, Marilyn and his
loving family were at his side when he went to be with his Lord.
Wayne was born in Fort Collins, Colorado and graduated from Monrovia, Arcadia, Duarte Union
High School in California. His college studies were completed, after serving in
the Air Force during the Korean conflict. Although he received a B.S. degree in
Soil Science from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and was offered a position with the
U.S. Forest Service, he began Fuller Seminary in Pasadena, CA and went on to
graduate from Dubuque Theological Seminary in Iowa to earn his masters degree
and dedicate his life to the service of Jesus Christ as a Pastor.
He served pastorates in Iowa before being called as the Senior Pastor for First
Presbyterian Church in Butte from 1980 to 1997 when he retired. He continued his
work post retirement, filling in at many churches in Montana. He performed over
170 weddings, his final one for his grandson, Christopher and Trudi Fisher in
December 2010. Wayne cared deeply about his work as a Pastor and helped anyone
who came to him in need. He loved reading books, newspapers, and other
literature, always learning throughout his life. He served on the boards of
Salvation Army, United Way and the Butte Food Bank among many other community
involvements.
Wayne and Marilyn moved from Butte to Helena in 2008 to be closer to son, Dan
and family. He will be greatly missed by many friends and family. He was married
to the love of his life, Marilyn (Bowen) Fisher on December 19, 1958 and is
survived by she and their three children, Daniel Fisher and his wife, Miyoko of
Helena, Annette Fisher Richards of Renton, WA, and Neil Fisher of Marysville,
WA. He is also survived by his grandson, Christopher Fisher and his wife, Trudi,

Dear Marilyn and family,
We are so sorry to hear of Wayne’s passing. We hold such fond memories of our time together in Butte and will miss him greatly. We thank God for the special people He brings into our lives and we celebrate with those who loved Wayne, on this his birthday into heaven.
Captains DeWayne and Toni Halstad says
Dear Marilyn,
We sincerely offer our condolences for your loss. We take great joy in knowing that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord as Paul states in 2 Corinthians 5:8. So we know that Reverend Fisher is singing Praises to the Lord at this moment. Rev. Fisher was an important part of The Salvation Army Advisory Board. He was always willing to roll up his sleeves and get in there and help out doing whatever needed to be done. He was a true example of Christ. We pray that the Lord will give you peace during these difficult days. God bless you.

I enjoyed many sermons by Wayne at our church here in Helena. Through those sermons and knowing Dan, Miyoko and family, one knew he was a fine, fine man. I am sorry for your loss. I lift you all in prayer for the blessings you have shared and Wayne’s journey to eternal life.
Paul & Margie Arends says
Dear Marilyn,
We are grateful for all that you and Wayne have been for us in our lives and ministry, that you believed in us to give us a start in Montana for God’s Kingdom. We will miss Wayne but rejoice in the reality of our great hope and confidence which Wayne preached again and again to those who had ears to hear. And your faithfulness to stand with him as partner in the gospel as well as his best friend has left a legacy that lives on through the lives touched by you both. Wishing that we could be with you at the memorial service but hoping to run into you in the days ahead in our common ministry to the people of Montana. Praying for you and your kids. May you encounter the Father’s grace and peace at this time in greater reality than you have ever known before, for He will certainly hold you close as His precious daughter.

Marilyn and Family,
I know we will not miss Wayne as much as you all, but we will miss is smile and his soothing/quiet voice. When he did the service for my mom 10 years ago, our family was blessed by his words for her -someone he didn’t even know.
The Koinonia community and Presbyterian Church in Helena and Butte will miss him greatly.
God bless you all and be with you during this time.

Valerie Raisch says
To Mrs. Fisher and family,
I was a member of the Butte Presbyterian church with Rev. Tom Smatla till moving to Helena in 1977 and joining there and then moving to FL. in 2004. Didn’t know Rev. Fisher very well but the few times I was around him, he was a delightful man and one who will be missed by many. Heartfelt sympathy to you all and know that he is in God’s keeping till we meet again.
