William “Bill” Henry Beyer
In the early hours of February 19, 2025, our dear Bill peacefully passed away at Swedish Hospital in Denver, Colorado, where he had been a patient for several weeks.
Bill was born at the old St. Peter’s Hospital in Helena on September 8, 1945, to Henry and Lois (Samson) Beyer. He grew up in the small community of East Helena and enjoyed interacting with the residents, who were of diverse ethnicities. He always had interesting stories to relate about the people he came to know, as well as all of his daily adventures there.
Bill graduated from Helena High School in 1963 and then majored in Political Science at both Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma followed by Southern Oregon College in Ashland. After completing his formal education Bill moved to Seattle. He worked at Frederick and Nelson and enjoyed spending time with his Seattle relatives and sailing on Green Lake with friends. Bill came back home to Montana in 1972. He was employed by the Union Bank followed by 30 years with the Montana Department of Health and Environmental Sciences and the State Department of Environmental Quality. During this time he also worked part-time for Lewis and Clark County doing mail delivery.
Bill absorbed everything he read and was our walking encyclopedia. He had a keen interest in cars and was knowledgeable of the history and mechanics of all makes and models. He was a proud Democrat and enjoyed engaging in political discussions. Bill was a member of The Canyon Ferry Yacht Club and spent many pleasurable hours sailing on Canyon Ferry Lake. He sang with the Helena Chamber Singers and had a great time participating in karaoke with his good friend Tom Mulvaney. His favorite music genres were jazz, blues, and slow rock. Bill followed sports of all kinds, but baseball was his favorite, and he was an avid fan of the Seattle Mariners.
Bill was a kind and compassionate man with a strong sense of family. He was a natural caregiver and provided his mother with many years of loving care. Bill was a constant source of support for his sisters and he was a wonderful uncle to his nieces and nephews. He attended their activities and showed great interest in every one of them. They dearly loved their Uncle Bill.
Surviving Bill are his sisters Marlene Campbell (Murdo, deceased), Helena, Christine Hoffman (Larry), Helena, Linda Kasperick (Steve), Monmouth, Oregon, Cindy Beyer, East Helena; nieces Darcey Pipinich, Stacey Maharg, Heidi Lagerquist, Nicki Marazzani, Carrie Kasperick; nephews Derek Didriksen, Kyle Kasperick, Aaron Whitaker, Ashley Whitaker, Kellen Whitaker; several great nieces and nephews; numerous cousins; and long-time friend Carol Ashmore and her daughter Aimee of Denver, Colorado.
A service will be held for Bill in the spring at which time he will be buried in Forestvale Cemetery.
