Erv has passed away but, he always talked about the time he worked with Bill in Miles City and here in Helena. He always looked forward to Bill’s elk Christmas cards.

To Bill’s family , I met Bill “Captain Maloit” in 1978 at our Game Warden training school. Bill helped keep tabs on 10 brand new Game Wardens myself included. I always enjoyed visiting with him when our paths crossed. He was an unforgettable character.

I’ve had several interesting conversations and.experiences with Bill through the Back Country Horsemen, buying hay and talking about Marine Corps experiences. Bill was a veteran of both WW II and Korea, later, as a marksmanship instructer. He loved competing in tournaments with his Sharps rifles. Loved making choke cherry wine and syrup and his Golden Retrievers. He enjoyed talking about his work as a warden with the MT FWP,s and packing for the Forest Service. Bill was a legend for Montana’s wildlife. He will be missed.
