Wilmer Dean Eicher passed away January 3, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on December 19, 1929 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Daniel and Alpha Eicher. When he was five years old, the family moved to Yakima, WA, where he attended grade school. When he was 15 the family moved to Portland, Oregon where he graduated from Benson Tech High School.
On November 4, 1950, Wilmer and Marjorie Hawley were married in Portland, Oregon.
He began his career with the U.S. Geological Survey in Portland in 1955. He worked in the Eugene, OR office until he transferred in 1974 to the LaGrande, OR office. Upon Wilmer’s retirement from the U.S. Geological Survey in 1985, he and Marjorie moved to Helena, MT, where together they watched the successes of each of their daughters go on to establish families of their own. The family has now grown to include eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. After his retirement, Wilmer enjoyed helping Rod and Linda on the farm at Toston, putting up hay in the summer, and helping with the harvest in the fall.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie and three daughters, Elaine (Rick) Kitto of Townsend, Linda (Rod) Kitto of Toston, and Martha (Dave) Gardner of Helena. He is also survived by a sister, Genevieve (Dick) Peterson of Calgary, AB; a brother, Ron (Faye) Eicher of Portland, OR; eight grandchildren, Marni (Jory) Thompson, Craig (Lana) Kitto and Alisha (Philip) Knaub, Todd (Kay) Kitto, Brittney Kitto, Jason, Curtis and Eric Gardner; ten great-grandchildren; and many relatives and friends.
Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday, January 6th at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home, 3750 N. Montana Avenue. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 7th at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home. A reception will be held in the social center of the funeral home immediately following the service. Burial will be 2:00 p.m.at Deep Creek Cemetery in Townsend. So sorry for your loss but glad for the reward that Wilmer has received. Think of the days that we have shared over the past 50 years and how that when I was hugging Marjorie at Parma several years ago, Wilmer said “I like hugs too!” Always remember his sweet smile when he would greet you.
