Recording of Alice Anderson Service
Alice Marie (Bolstad) Anderson passed away on March 3, 2022 at the age of 91 with her family by her side at St. Peters Hospital in Helena MT. She was born to Walter and Loretta Arthur on June 16, 1930 in Lewistown, Montana. Alice attended grade schools at Rose Creek, Christina and Suffolk, graduating from Winifred High School in 1949. She married Orvel Bolstad on March 16, 1950 and had three sons: Dean, Jim and Gary. They lived west of Winifred, working in partnership on the family ranch with Orvel’s brothers Emmet and Alvin. While on the ranch Alice raised chickens, turkeys, gardened and helped with ranch chores milking cows and caring for pigs to help provide for the family. During lean times, Alice processed chickens for neighbors and managed the Winifred Café from 1963 to 1966. In 1967 they sold their share of the ranch to the brothers and moved to Denton where she was the assistant school cook and Orvel served as a bus driver and custodian. Students and staff looked forward to her daily outlay of homemade bread and weekly cinnamon rolls. Orvel and Alice moved to Bozeman in 1972 where they both worked as custodians at Montana State University. Alice retired shortly after Orvel passed away in 1988, and moved to Clancy, MT where her son Jim and family live. She married George Anderson on April 28, 1998. After George passed away in 2000, Alice moved to a Helena condominium where she resided until she moved to an assisted living facility in April 2021. Alice was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church, long time member and cherished sister of the Eagles Women’s Auxiliary, an avid gardener and pinochle player, successful fisherman and hunter, outstanding cook and seamstress along with being a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. She was preceded in death by her father Walter, mother Loretta, step mother Grace, sister Betty, brother Frank, and husbands Orvel and George. She is survived by her sons and their spouses Dean and Barbara (Reno NV), James and Vanessa (Clancy MT) and Gary and Karen (Bozeman MT), sister Frieda Terry (Winifred MT), seven grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren along with numerous nephews and nieces.
