Mom began her life in Oakland, CA., as the youngest of three children born to Jessie and Ben Haralson. At the age of two, the family moved to the farming community of Dutton. It was in Dutton that she met and married our dad; Sonny and they had 49 wonderful years together until dad’s passing in 1995. In 1962 our family moved to Helena after dad was appointed State Auditor by Gov. Babcock. He held that office for 23 years.
Mom was a homemaker her entire life and Kris and Myrna were blessed to grow up having a “stay at home mom”. One of mom’s very few disappointments in life, but one that really upset her was when she became of age to play girls’ basketball, the powers to be at that time decided that basketball was too rough for girls to play it and it was dropped from the curriculum. Even though she couldn’t participate, that started her love of all sports and it was rare that she didn’t have some type of sporting event on the TV. Mom and dad were avid fisherman and when dad retired in 1985 they spent many summers on Vancouver Island, salmon fishing.
For the last year mom was living in Sun Heaven Assisted Living in Helena. Words cannot express our thanks to the staff at the top-notch facility. Mom really enjoyed living there and meeting new friends. Her huge candy stash that she saved for Kris showed her prowess at the weekly bingo games.
Mom was preceded in death by her husband; Sonny Omholt, her brother; Henry Haralson (killed in WWII) and sister Lucille Reiner. She is survived by her son Kris Omholt(Colleen); daughter Myrna Omholt-Mason(Leny) three grandchildren, one great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 22nd at Montana State Veterans Cemetery, Fort Harrison. A reception will immediately follow in the social hall of Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home, 3750 N. Montana Ave. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to a charity of their choice.

Audrey, aka a Lady of the Loop, had an incredible spirit. She was genuinely interested in others, a great conversationalist, and a delight to be around. And…. she made the most wonderful custard that she generously shared with her neighbors. In spite of her debilitating arthritis, Audrey kept going – always with a warm and friendly smile on her face. Her strength was inspirational. I am fortunate to have known her. Please accept my condolences.

There were many Monday nights at “cheap chicken” that we would laugh so much our sides would ache. Our deepest sympathy to Myrna, Kris, and friends and we know that all the wonderful memories of your lives with her will keep her close to your hearts. We’ll miss you Audrey.

We are so sorry to hear of Audrey’s passing. We met Audrey during three weeks last September when my husband was recovering from surgery at the Appleton rehab center. What an awesome lady she was! She was so fun to visit with and sat with us during many meals there. She always had the most upbeat demeanor and saw the sunny side of life. We knew her for such a short time but she left a lasting impression.

The Purdys give our sincere condolences to the Omholt families. Audrey and Sonny were two of our parents (Vivian and C Lowell) best friends “back in the day!”. Many events, activities and family get togethers produced a ton of fond memories…too many to recount…There were a host of other families that also as a result of politics were displaced to the capitol city of Helena…where we all made new and lasting friends…the Omholts were certainly thee BEST of the best! Great Times… Judy, Jim&Barbara…

Shannon Kirby says
Myrna, I have such fond, warm memories of being adopted by you all in Helena and I truly thought your mom was a gem. That generation was cut from some amazing cloth and thank God we were lucky enough to have known them. Your mom had a marvelous sense of humor and was such a kind soul and always made me feel welcome, no matter where we were. You certainly take after her, my dear, as you too are cut from some very special cloth. I am so blessed to have gotten to know your mom, and you, and Leny. Love to you always, Shan.

Kris, sending my sincere sympathy in the passing of your mother. She was a very special lady. I always looked forward to being with your mother and dad and their family and friends on Thanksgiving Day. Of course, the football games were enjoyed by all. Your parents welcomed me into the ‘family’ with such love that I will always appreciate having them in my life. This month I was in Missoula for a reunion with classmates on Homecoming weekend. Drove through Helena to visit my brother in Roundup. Had hoped to visit your mother while in Helena. When the phone number I tried did not work, I checked on-line and discovered her obituary. Please accept my sympathy. Ann Cade Phelps
