Audrey M. Plymale Quist, 94 of Helena, passed away April 2, 2011 at Aspen Gardens where she had lived for the past three years. Audrey was born April 28, 1916 in Canton, Montana – a town which is now under Canyon Ferry Lake. She was the fourth of eight children born to John (Bert) Gilbert and Olive Keene Plymale.
Audrey graduated from Broadwater County High School in 1935. She graduated from Montana State College in Bozeman in 1940 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry. She also received a teaching certificate. Her first teaching job, in 1941, was in Toston. She moved to Antelope in 1942 to teach and then in 1943, she moved to Plains to teach school. Audrey married Umbert Carl Quist on Thanksgiving Day, November 23, 1950 in Townsend. They lived in the Helena valley and she was a homemaker. Together they had three sons. Umbert passed away in June of 1970.
Audrey enjoyed crocheting, knitting and making handmade crafts. Throughout the years, she crocheted many afghans and Christmas stockings for family and friends. She also enjoyed making “sequin” calendars each year to give as Christmas gifts. She was very interested in genealogy and spent many years researching and traveling to find and document the family ancestors. She enjoyed attending family events and always loved having her family together. She loved gardening and sharing her harvest with everyone.
Audrey was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. She attended weekly bible study classes which were led by George Harper. She was also a member of Eastern Star.
She is survived by her three sons, John (Julie) Quist of Helena, Carl (Laurie) Quist of Carnation, Washington, and Glen (Joan) Quist of Perryton, Texas; eight grandchildren, Stephanie, Michael, Amy, Caitlyn, Kelli, Shannon, Megan, and Ryan; three great-grandchildren, Adelaide, Carson, Colby, and one on the way; brothers, Hubert and Fred Plymale; and many nieces and nephews.

John, Julie, & Family:
My sincere sympathies to you all during this difficult time. Although it’s been several years since I last saw Audrey, I have fond memories of the times she was still able to come to Townsend for Star events. May God hold you in the palm of His hand and your faith in Him bring you comfort.
