Carl (Bud) Stav Jr passed away peacefully on May 19,2022. Carl was born July 31, 1927, to Carl Stav Sr and Kate (Jursnick) Stav in Deer Lodge Mt.
He grew up hunting and fishing in the Deer Lodge area during the depression. Hunting and fishing turned into a lifelong passion. In 1945 he graduated from Powell County High School and enlisted in the Navy for the duration. He was discharged in August of 1946.
After returning home he worked for Safeway grocery stores in Deer Lodge and Helena. While working in Helena he met Betty Lou Moore. They were married June 14,1949 at the Cathedral of St Helena.
His career with Safeway took them to Dillon, Deer Lodge, where daughter Cathy was born. Chouteau, Butte, where daughter Patty was born, Anaconda and finally Glendive as manager of the new store there. After leaving Safeway he worked for Chrisafulli Pump Co of Glendive. During his time with Chrisafulli, he and Betty traveled throughout the U. S. Two of their favorite places were New Orleans, LA and Stuttgart AR.
In 1977 Bud and Betty moved back to Deer Lodge where he worked for 10 years as a Corrections Officer at the Mt State Prison. During these years they spent time camping at Georgetown Lake with family. They also made many good friends at Georgetown and looked forward to getting together with them year after year. He was also very involved with Ducks Unlimited. He received several awards for his many hours of work devoted to “the ducks”.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 64 years Betty, his daughter Patty Mehr, his sister and brother-in-law Alice and Doug Lodge. Betty’s brother and his wife Jack and Penny Moore. Niece Carolyn Lang, and nephew Joe Moore.
He is survived by his daughter Cathy (Gary) Meidinger, son-in-law Fritz Mehr. Grandchildren Jamie (Sky) Stanton; Laura (Brad) Reardon; Chad (Adrienne) Meidinger; Brad (Chandi) Mehr; Chris (Cassie) Mehr. Great Grandchildren, Tyler and Kaitlyn Stanton; Kara Reardon; Gavin Meidinger; Cooper Mehr ; Caleb and Callie Mehr, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial and reception will be held at Anderson Stevenson Funeral Home on May 26th at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow the reception at Hillcrest Cemetery in Deer Lodge.
The family would like to thank the medical staff of St Peters Hospital 3rd floor medical unit for the excellent and compassionate care he received the last week of his life.
Memorials may be to Ducks Unlimited or a charity of your choice.
