Charlotte Louise Jirsa, age 85, of Helena, passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on Friday, October 2, 2020. She was born on October 7, 1934 to Burneice (Willcox) and Alfred Laursen in Havre, Montana. She was the 5th of 7 children.
Charlotte grew up in Big Sandy, Montana and went to college in Helena. She met her first husband, Thomas Thompson, in 1950 and they married in 1951. They had 5 children together. Thomas passed away in 1964.
She met and married John Jirsa in 1965. They had 2 children together. They went their separate ways and he passed away in 2013.
She and Alvin Mueller had one child together.
Charlotte enjoyed painting, doing various puzzles, and dancing. She loved being with her family and had several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Burneice, her first husband, Thomas Thompson, her second husband, John Jirsa, brothers Leroy Laursen and William Laursen, and sisters Arleen Laursen and Virginia Olson, and granddaughter Karrah Thompson-Dion twin daughter of Wayne and Vicki Dion.
She is survived by her 8 children: Barbara Hands of Missoula, Walter Thompson of Helena, Wayne (Vicki) Dion of Montana City, Kenneth Thompson of Townsend, Tammie (Gary) Berg of Helena, John Jirsa of Helena, Veronica Hinkle of Helena, and Suzanne Hall of Helena. Charlotte is also survived by 25 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2020 at Retz Funeral Home, 315 E. 6th Ave. in Helena. A graveside service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at Highland Cemetery in Havre. Please visit below to offer the family a condolence or share a memory of Charlotte.

My girls always called her Grandma Charlotte. She was very kind to them from the time they were small. I waa sorry to hear about her passing. My condolences to the family, especially Victor who spent so much time with her growing up. We will remember her always.
