On May 2, 2014, a warm & beautiful Montana evening as the sun set in the west Dorine Kay “Dodie” Spurlock slipped away while being held in “The Brother-In-Law’s “(KC Holman) arms. Trumpets sounded, the heavens opened and a band of angels arrived to escort Dorine Kay “Dodie” Spurlock home to her Heavenly Father.
Dorine Kay “Dodie” Spurlock was born February 20, 1959 to Barney & Velma Jo Spurlock in Helena, MT. The youngest of eight siblings’ she was most certainly the dearest of all. She was undoubtedly our very own “Angel on Earth.”
As a result of her parents untimely passing, Dodie resided briefly with her brother Jerry Spurlock. As a little girl Dodie would live with her sister Connie & her children Renee’ McDaniel, Rhonda Champagne & Tom & Troy Ferris whom Dodie considered to be her sisters & brothers as well as they did her. While living with Connie, Dodie attended & graduated from the Anaconda school system.
In her early twenties Dodie went to South Dakota to ranch with her sister Shirley Ford & her children. While there Dodie operated an egg business and nurtured orphaned calves that were a part of her sister Shirley’s cattle operation. Dodie also worked for Black Hills Industries in their wood shop.
In her early thirties Dodie moved back to Montana and lived with her sister Bonnie Holman and husband KC. Dodie went to work for the Farm In The Dell in Helena. She was an intricate part of their flower and tomato business. Dodie worked there for 22 years, retiring in 2011. Dodie loved her job at the Farm.
Dodie loved to dance, sing and converse. She knew no stranger and brought joy to all who came into contact with her. All of Dodie’s life was a celebration. She was always the life of the party and the belle of the ball.
Dodie was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Joann Kaufman & Shirley Ford as well as brothers Bill & Jim Spurlock.
Dodie is survived by her sister Bonnie & very special Brother-In-Law KC Holman whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by her sister Connie Mayer. She is also survived by her brother Jerry Spurlock as well as many many nieces & nephews. Dodie loved all of her family immensely.
We will miss Dodie terribly. She has left behind an unrepairable hole in all of our hearts and a void in our lives, but know that we loved her enough to let her go knowing that she is in the presence of her family who went before her and in the arms of Jesus. She is undoubtedly dancing with the Angels.
Dodie leaves behind thousands of wonderful memories that make us smile and often fill our lives with laughter.
We love you little sister and we shall embrace again someday. Unitl then…dance Sugarbear dance.
Dodies family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Rocky Mountain Hospice, St. Peters Hospital and especially Lowell Bartels. We would also like to thank all who showed kindness, compassion and love to Dodie as she journeyed this life.
Donations may be made in Dodie’s name to the Farm In The Dell Foundation, 1208 Poplar Street, Helena, MT 59601.

Heaven gained another angel last night(Friday)…my Aunt Dodie gained her angel wings and is now dancing in heaven. For those who knew her, knew the zest for life she had and how much she would light up the room when she walked in. … everyone loved her….and she loved everyone, especially “her kids”! …. and man she could bust a move when she wanted to! You will be missed dearly Dodie… But now you are a perfect beautiful angel….no more pain…no more struggles. We love you Dodie!

We will miss you “Fudge”. We love you very much.
God saw she was getting tired, a cure was not to be
So he put His arms around her, and whispered, “Come with me.”
Although we loved her dearly, we could not make her stay.
A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands to rest;
God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the Best!
XOXO

My heart and prayers go out to Dodie’s family and extended family! What a blessing she was, and will continue to be! I always loved her hugs and kisses and “I love you’s”! Tears may flow, but they are doing so with a smile on my face with all of the fond memories of her at softball games, dances, etc. She is a treasure!

We were truly blessed to know Dodie for so many years. She created and played the most beautiful song on her harmonica when we were married. It was a memory we will never forget. We both loved her dearly, she was such a wonderful sweetheart. She is entertaining everyone and catching up with family now. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family in this time, as she was so well loved by them. Keep the checkers board warm for Darold, Dodie. He wants a rematch in Heaven!
