Dorothy Louise Stubby, age 83 passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2015 at Touchmark in Helena, MT. She was born Dorothy Louise McCarty, daughter of Gene and Vera McCarty in Marion, Kansas November 10, 1931. Dorothy was the second oldest of five McCarty siblings.
Dorothy married Gilmer Stubby, the love of her life, on February 18, 1951. They had two children, son Terry and daughter Sandy. Gilmer and Dorothy lived their life together and raised their family, in Newton, KS. Gilmer left Dorothy’s side when passing on July 9, 2013. Sunday, Dorothy joined Gilmer and once again, dancing in each other’s arms.
November, 2013 Dorothy moved to Helena, MT to be near her Montana family, living her remaining life at Touchmark in Helena.
Dorothy attended school in Marion, KS graduating from Marion High School in 1949. Dorothy was a beautiful person inside as well as outside. Her senior year she was voted Carnival Queen. In our hearts, she remains that Carnival Queen.
Dorothy was a wonderful and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, homemaker and wife. Dorothy worked various jobs throughout her life, including waitressing, secretary, cashier and receptionist.
Her hobbies throughout her life were many. In her younger years Dorothy enjoyed going hunting with her family. Dorothy and Gilmer were often seen on weekends out on the dance floor at VFW and Legion. They were great dance partners and enjoyed it immensely. Dorothy loved the outdoors, fishing, camping and gardening. Dorothy and Gilmer also enjoyed bowling together. She won numerous bowling trophies while bowling in mixed leagues with Gilmer.
Some of her other hobbies included embroidery, latch hook, crossword puzzles, puzzles, playing cards and roller skating.
The most important thing to her throughout her life has always been family.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Peggy Hett and Patsy Adams, and brother, Donald McCarty.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Terry Stubby and wife Kim of Helena, daughter Sandy Flaming of Newton, KS, grandchildren, Brandi Stubby of Helena; Brent Flaming of Oklahoma City, OK; Michelle Morris of Fall City, WA; Kristal Flaming of Lincoln, NE; and Dustin Flaming of Newton, KS; great-grandchildren, Emmeline Peterson of Helena; Payton, Michael and Bennett Morris of Fall City, WA; Abigail Flaming of Oklahoma City, OK; Jackson Flaming of Newton, KS; brother Larry McCarty and sister-in-law, Karen of Maple Lake MN; and many nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to those who offered such kindness, support and comfort to our Mom, Dorothy, the last two years at Touchmark. The care and love you gave Mom was amazing and we will forever be grateful.
The funeral service will be held at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton, KS on Tuesday, September 08, 2015 at 11:00 AM. Dorothy will join Gilmer by his side in Greenwood Cemetery in Newton, KS.
