In the early morning hours of January 22, 2014, Genevieve (Jenny) Rose Meyer Crawford passed on due to complications of Alzheimer’s.
Jenny was born on August 28, 1929 to Clem and Helena Riis Meyer. She was raised with siblings Mary, Betty, Ted and Ida and attended St. Helena School for eight years. While attending Helena High School and graduating in 1947, she met her one and only true love, Robert (Lee) Crawford.
Jenny married Lee in 1948, and they recently celebrated 66 years together. Jenny and Lee raised five children; Bob, Dan, Tim, Nick and Ivy. She worked for her parents at the Main Motel before becoming a bookkeeper for Allen Electric and American Building. After “retiring” Jenny and Lee opened and operated J. Crawford’s Yogurt Shop. She was an avid walker, and was often seen on one side of the town or another and anywhere in between.
Jenny was a source of strength for her family and showed us all what it means to work hard. She loved spending time with her family, whether it was at the family cabin, going on trips, frequent family gatherings, Friday lunches or simply a not so quick visit at her home.
When asked how they want Grandma to be remembered, it was hard to come up with a quick way to describe her. She was so much to all of us. She was beautiful, strong, stubborn, kind hearted, healthy and fun. She is our grandma, our mom, the love of Lee’s life; she is our sunshine and our truth, and will be greatly missed by her entire family and all that knew her. Jenny had a long, beautiful life. Do not cry for her; she had it all.
Jenny was preceded in death by her parents, all her siblings, sister-in-law Brona Lu Crawford and daughter-in-law Doris Niven Crawford. She is survived by her husband Lee, their children; Bob (Linda), Dan (Mary), Tim, Nick, Ivy Robertson (Kerry), brother-in-law Harry (Karen) Crawford and Dawn Piazzi. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren, who will miss her more than words can say; Angie, Shane, Ryan, Dani, Jessie, Jake, Travis, Christopher, and Amber, twelve great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Aimee, Sherri and the entire Aspen Gardens staff for the phenomenal care of not only Jenny, but also her family.
A vigil will be held at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, January 30, 2014 at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home, 3750 N. Crawford Family, my thoughts and prayers are with you. Jenny will always hold a special place in my heart. When she sold her parents home at Ewing and 8th Ave in 1985; Sharon and I purchased it. We enjoyed our interactions with Jenny and really loved the many years we spent in that special home. It was always such a treat to see Jenny and have a brief visit…she was always in a hurry, so the visits were brief. God Bless you all.

Jenny and I worked together at the Allen Electric when it was located on Main Street, so many years ago. Jenny trained me the best that she could and we had many happy hours together there and afterwards. We heard so many stories about the family and watched as they built the home my brother-in-law, Mike, now lives in. So many memories that we will always treasure. Our thoughts are with everyone in the family.
