Glen Nelson Courtney passed away at his home in Martinsburg, West Virginia, on Saturday, April 14, 2012 from a heart attack. He was 57 years old.
Glen in survived by his wife, Donna, and five children Garrett, Garrison, Garand, Gwendolyn and Gregory. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Aidan, Dean, Jonathan, Bailey, Ashlyn, Avonlea, Jacob, Lily and a grandson due in August. He is also survived by his mother, Eleanor, and brothers, Gary and Grant along with niece, Maria, and nephew, Seamus, daughter-in-laws, Chanel Hall and Andree. Glen’s father, Harold, preceded him in death in 2009.
Glen joined the U. S. Air Force in 1972, with his first station at Malmstrom AFB in Great Falls, Montana. He also served at several bases in California, Texas and the Philippines and Wichita, Kansas. He retired in 1992 after serving in the first Gulf War as a navigator on a KC-135 Stratotanker. While stationed in the Philippines, he won Airman of the Year for his work also receiving numerous commendations for his work. Upon retiring from the Air Force, Glen worked for the US Border Patrol as an intelligence analyst in Havre, Montana for over 10 years before being stationed in Washington, DC, where he currently served.
Glen graduated from the University of Great Falls in Great Falls, Montana, where he received a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics. He was born in San Bernardino, California and graduated from Banning High School in Banning, California.
Glen loved reading, learning about military history, fishing, horticulture, collecting old weapons and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Glen will be missed by his family for the laughter, love, understanding and patience that he showed over the course of his life. Most importantly he will be missed because he was our father, husband and grandfather, which can never be replaced.
Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 22, 2012 at Belt Community Church in Belt, Montana.
Graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, April 23, 2012, at Montana State Veterans Cemetery in Fort Harrison, Montana.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg, WV. Local arrangements are under the direction of Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home.
