Gregory Blain “Greg” McFerrin left us tragically on March 9, 2015.
He was born July 4, 1969, to Michael H. and Felicity Dagnall McFerrin in Dillon, Montana. He lived various places in this state: Glasgow, Big Sky, and the greater Helena area. He was a true Montana boy and never wanted to live anywhere else.
His formal education began at the little Ophir School in the Gallatin Valley and continued in the East Helena and Helena school systems, including Helena High School. In his twenties he completed a telecommunications school which prepared him for his career in that field.
Greg and Carmen Lynn Songer were married on June 4, 1994. With that marriage he gained a daughter Alyssa Jaye. His family was completed with the addition of Hunter Bradley and Kinsley Dawn in the following years. His world revolved around his family.
Greg worked in the food service industry for several years. But he always enjoyed a challenge, and the emerging telecommunications industry offered just such a challenge. After he worked for others installing cell phone equipment, he and Carmen formed their own company, NBS Communications. (Ask Carmen what the initials mean.) NBS contracted with Verizon for work in Montana and Wyoming, which kept Greg on the road a lot, but also introduced him to some wonderful friends and beautiful places.
Greg loved the outdoors and loved sharing time with family and friends. His love of camping, fishing, riding dirt bikes, and most especially hunting defined him. He fulfilled a long time dream of shooting a bison with his bow just last month.
Greg is survived by his wife Carmen, his children Alyssa (Ryan) Pecnick, Hunter McFerrin, Kinsley McFerrin, grandchildren Reegan Pecnick, Aydin McFerrin, and another baby due in September, all of Helena. Also surviving are his parents Michael and Felicity McFerrin, his grandmother June McFerrin of Great Falls, aunts and uncles Gary (Marla) McFerrin, Joy (Walter) Grant, Robert (Liz) Dagnall, Julie (Rick) Diehl, cousins Raymond Dagnall, Kate Dagnall, Bryn McFerrin and Brooke McFerrin, father-in-law Tom (Terri Teixeira) Songer, and Carmen’s extended family.
He was predeceased by grandparents Howard H. McFerrin, and Luke R. and Irene J. Dagnall, and by his mother-in-law Debra Sparing Songer.
A memorial service celebrating Greg’s life will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 17th at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home, 3750 N. Montana Ave., and a reception will follow the memorial service at the East Valley Fire Hall, 2694 Valley Dr., East Helena. Memorials in Greg’s name are suggested to Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks c/o Hunters Education, PO Box 200701 Helena, MT 59620 or the Lewis and Clark Chapter Mule Deer Foundation PO Box 7553 Helena, MT 59604. Trying to express in words how sorry I am for your loss, for all of our loss. Greg was a wonderful man, although I will always remember him first as a 9 year old best friend who lived next to the lake, had cool (mean looking) dogs and welcoming parents, was quick with a smile and a laugh. He will be missed.

Mike & Felicity this has to be the hardest thoughts and memories I have ever written. Your family impacted my life so many years ago and you were always just across the street or a phone call away both here in Glasgow and in Helena. i will never forget our son’s when they were little, they had a lasting relationship not always daily but distant. As i remember Greg was much like his father and in this picture he looks just like Mike did the last time I saw you all and that has been a while. All I keep doing is praying that God will ease your pain as I can not even imagine what you are going thru. Give each other a hug from a old friend who love you all so much and will forever have your family in my heart. Pless those grandchildren and greats that you have they are special. God’s arms now surrond you now and forever. (If ever in Glasgow look me up)
