Joseph Thomas (JT) Corbett was born in Helena, Montana, on May 15, 2003. JT was embraced by the loving arms of Jesus when he passed away on the evening of July 6, 2022. He was 19 years old.
As a kid, JT loved trains and Legos. By the age of four, he impressed everyone he met with his encyclopedic knowledge about trains. He met his mom when he was two and a half years old and lovingly referred to her as “My Becky” when introducing her to teachers and friends. JT was loved unconditionally by Becky, and at the age of 11, Becky was able to solidify their mother-son relationship when she legally adopted JT. In 2012, the Corbett family grew when his brother Jonah was born. JT took the role of big brother seriously, and despite the 10-year age difference, Jonah and JT had a very special relationship and loved spending time together.
At school, JT’s teachers always recognized his intelligence. JT was diagnosed at a young age with autism and ADHD. Life gave him many challenges, but JT overcame every obstacle. He had many great teachers and advocates who helped him succeed in school. He also loved seeing his grandma at school every day in the lunchroom.
During the summers, JT enjoyed spending time with his family camping and boating. His face lit up when fishing with his dad and papa and he loved to be dumped off the tube when boating. JT spent summers with his Grandma Vonnie and Papa Dennis while his parents were at work.
A talented creator, JT communicated with the world through his art. As a little boy who looked up to his dad, his first drawings were of the semi-trucks from his shop. His talent grew over the years and his art has been displayed at the Holter Museum of Art, Exploration Works, and most importantly all over the walls and fridges of those who loved him. In 2021, his art was selected by his peers for the Helena High graduating class billboard on Montana Avenue. JT recently began creating costumes and showcasing them as a digital art form on Tik-Tok. He had over 250,000 followers who understood and enjoyed JT’s passion for costumes.
In the last few years, JT had gained his independence. He began driving, moved into his own apartment, dated, and had a job at Home Depot. JT’s colleagues and managers at Home Depot supported and guided him professionally as he entered adulthood. JT truly felt at home while working there.
JT was preceded in death by his great-grandparents on both sides of the family and two great aunts.
JT is survived by his parents Joe and Becky Corbett; his brother, Jonah; grandparents Dennis and Susanne Corbett and Doug and Vonnie Strong; uncle Steven (Mayu) Strong; uncle Aaron Strong; uncle Shawn Corbett; uncle Aaron (Blanca) Corbett; and aunt Tia Snyder. JT is also survived by cousins, friends, and his golden retriever, Gracie.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, July 14, at 11:00 am, at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home, 3750 N. Montana Ave, Helena, Montana.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Montana Youth Leadership Forum, which had a significant impact on JT when he participated in 2021. Donations can be sent to 1617 Euclid Ave, Suite 1, Helena, MT 59601.
JT’s family would like to thank the Lewis and Clark County Sheriff’s Department, Cascade County Sheriff’s Department, Montana Highway Patrol, first responders, and the Helena Home Depot.

Hi Becky. I just realized today that this energetic, intellectually curious human being had to leave this sphere. I was a presenter at MyLF 2021, so that is how briefly I interacted with your son. Isn’t it amazing, that one person can leave such a lasting impression in just a short moment? We were there to show some assistive technology, and his interest and energy seemed boundless. We harnessed it by asking him to figure out a device and teach it to the rest of the campers, which he did. Very well. My own sons are on the Spectrum. I know some of the same worries and joys you have experienced I’m sure. That connection compelled me to write just to say, JT was (is) a beautiful human being who truly impacted those around him in joyous, positive ways. Wishing you peace, and comfort, and strength.
Gage Hellerud says
So late to finding this page but… He was amazing. We were best friends through discord and I’ve even been taking care of his server and his fans since the passing. I didn’t know all these things about him, his interest in technology and his intellect- it’s a side of him I wish I could’ve met, considering my interests falling in line with his. He inspired me to make my own costumes, and to make my own art, and stories, and so much more. He is a one of a kind guy, and will always be. We all miss you JT/Springmatronic. None of us have forgotten you. And I hope we can meet again someday, and you can tell me all about your time since you’ve left. We love you brother. Rest easy.
